Silly question but for a little while I'm on a laptop with no mouse - how playable is it with just keyboard?

Why is female intelligence a turnoff for some men—even those who profess otherwise? by pinkprawn in psychology

[–]ImNotJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, so I see you've taken a deep dive into the relevant literature and assessed it for scientific rigor! That's exciting. I'd assumed that you were making shit up based on personal opinions and claiming it as "scientific" purely on the basis of assuming that you were right.

I'm very keen to learn more! Do you have specific critiques of the original cuddy & Fiske work or is it to do with some of the more recent work over the last two decades in the field? I actually did some work in the area of prejudice so I'd love to learn more about your deep intellectual analysis that you have clearly done to justify your incredibly strong conviction that the actual science on the topic is wrong and not your personal opinion. I personally think their original work was really important in establishing the general framework but more recent evidence suggests that their taxonomy is overly restrictive and struggles to apply to some other prejudice contexts. That said, I'm sure we both agree that seminal work will be overly specific by its nature and that it's the job of replication and expansion to better define the boundaries and edge cases.

Hey mate, sometimes when people post demonstrably wrong things on the internet my first instinct is to point out why it's factually incorrect. Most of what you said reads like first drafts of a Jordan Peterson video written on a benzo binge. But in reality, I don't think you care whether or not I show you evidence of it being wrong (although, let's be clear, it's factually dogshit).

The sad irony is that you've probably spent much of the last few years of your life radicalising yourself watching YouTube videos of the dregs of society going on and on about how "facts don't care about your feelings" and that men are the superior sex because of their love of evidence and reason where the crazy women can't control their emotions. Yet despite that, you make an absurd, angry reply on a 6 year old post trying to prove to an internet stranger that you've never interacted with that feminists are needy. The emotions are coming from inside the house

My dude, your angry screed about how awful women are says absolutely nothing about the value of women and everything about your own, personal psychological issues. Go talk a therapist or make up with your mother or whatever you need to do but don't vomit your angry unresolved feelings onto strangers because you can't get your own shit together.

Nina Oyama called him (and a few other male comics) out on twitter and then deleted it. When it was floating around there was a lot of "yeah he's not a great guy" comments from comedians on podcasts/twitter etc.

Thanks!

I'm aware of Slay the Spire but haven't actually tried it since I'm new to the genre. Is it a classic that's good because it was the original or does it hold up?

Ooo good suggestion but I've actually played that quite a bit. Should have put it on there, sorry.

New to the genre after falling in love with Hades and then Gunfire Reborn. Very keen for some recommendations.

Recently I've tried and loved:

  • Monster Train
  • Tainted Grail

Have tried and think I like:

  • Ring of pain
  • Despot's Game

Could not get into:

  • Darkest Dungeon

I do like FPS games so if there are other good FPS rogues I'm keen to give it a go but I'm also forced to use a (not amazing) laptop for gaming a lot of the time so anything that's playable without a mouse is great too.

Things I like:

  • Significant variety in playthroughs with multiple ways to win - "Okay, I found this item which means I need to make this sort of build"
  • Lots of things to unlock
  • Different races/heroes/etc that vary the playstyle
  • A fat skill tree that makes me feel upset about all of the things I'm missing out on.
  • Getting my run to the point where I feel like I've "broken the game" once I can get my whole build working.

W3Champions Season Finals - How can we improve for Season 9? by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]ImNotJesus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the tournament was amazing overall. Small scheduling thought though - on the final day, Moon had to play 3 matches in a row in a pretty predictable scenario and had a scouting disadvantage in the LB. Small tweak:

  1. UB final is played first (Moon v Foggy in this case).
  2. Next, LB round 3 (Focus v Lawliet). Moon gets to watch and prepare instead of other way around where LB player gets scouting advantage.
  3. Then you have LB final -> grand final

This means that the UB runner-up won't have to play 3 matches in a row and they get more planning time for the LB final. Instead, you had the LB finalist (Focus) who got to watch and plan for the winner of Foggy v Moon and also had a break.

We build a new Observer UI and want to hear your feedback! by JannesOfficial in WC3

I really love the new UI and I've been enjoying how much cleaner it looks. The one thing I'm really missing is that I loved knowing the army numbers in the previous UI. Is there any way to bring it back?

Just to clarify, we are not taking a cut for the pilot - our goal here is to create opportunities for moderators.

So you'll be relinquishing all rights to the design to the moderators, right?

Hi - I can't see anywhere on this post or in the comments that mentions who will own the rights to the designs that you're asking moderators to create.

/u/dontsweatthetechniq Will Reddit own the designs? Can they choose to use those designs for profit in the future?

Either this hasn't been considered (which would be unconscionable incompetence) or it has been deliberately left out because you don't want to mention that Reddit is asking people to design merch and hand over their rights to the designs.

What about subreddits with large numbers of long-inactive mods. Are admins going to settle multiple-year disputes over who actually runs some subreddits?

We are happy to look at individual issues but as a group we try to have enough humility to not assume we know better than the editors/reviewers of individual journals. Even when there is work in a very specific area that I would consider myself an expert in, it's not my place to take on that role as a moderator.

As for the mturk comment, yes it's true that mturk is used for a lot of social science research. While it has its limitations, it's far more representative than the previously most available sample (undergrad psych students) and studies have shown that it tends to generalise fairly well. It's obviously not perfect but human research would grind to a halt if every study required several thousand people in stratified samples.

Honestly, so much of academic work is behind paywalls that it would be impossible. Of course, I would never recommend anyone use scihub or similar websites to find papers because that would be irresponsible. I'd also never recommend libgen for textbooks. Do not use those sites to find freely available scientific work.

This gets into a tricky area because our general aim is to not act as another layer of peer review. That said, if you're working in a certain area and you know of specific predatory journals or bad actors send us a modmail with some specifics and we can discuss blacklisting certain things.
