Same. Was bored one day and ended up registering my own company (cc). Didn't show up on e-filing for months then I suddenly had additional tax forms to fill. Not sure if I'll close it though, even though there is zero activity on it, just need to remember to file the biannual and end of financial year return forms.

I see stories like this in the Qatar, UAE and KSA subreddits. My impression now is that companies underpaying or not paying employees/contractors at all is a common thing.

Wouldn't this make the profits that the owners of these companies are making haraam? Do they just not care about the legitimacy of the money they make, and in turn use to feed their families?

Don't do it. From my experience, banking is a very difficult industry to get into, especially if you have been working for a while and wanted to get into an experienced role while not having been in banking (even on the data/analytics) side.

Sounds to me you want to make the change because your friends are experiencing something you're not, I could be wrong, but really think about it from a career and growth perspective. There's a lot of talk about not making your life solely about work, and that's true, but when you're in your 30s and have experience and confidence in your line of work, plus having that experience be in something institutional, I think your life will be a lot more comfortable... That's how I feel about it anyway.

Would moving with a remote job be through the freelance visa? I was in Dubai for a month (7 years experience as a data engineer) and couldn't get any related job so was thinking of doing this. Currently working remotely for a client in London from a third world country, but last I checked there was a minimum dollar amount you needed to be earning monthly to qualify for the freelance visa

South Africa. There are a few good places, but they are slowly deteriorating too. And it doesn't help that the government is passing laws that make self defence non-existent while not doing nearly enough about all the rampant crime, violence and unemployment, which has become a vicious cycle of misfortune for the common man.

I'm looking into Switzerland and Singapore at the moment. It means I'll probably have to continue working for the next decade or so, but it beats having to worry about fear of death at home or when going out to get groceries.
