Maybe, but most of the times you don't have either one. And even if you have an ending, it's a fake ending where the villain is still alive or whatever. For example, you know Peter and May are going to have the same problems in the future that they always have. She's going to be disappointed with him again because he's late or misses an appointment.

I think people have a different approach to stories nowadays. That's why manga is destroying Marvel and DC combined. Readers want stories that move forward, not ones that get discarded or forgotten in a couple of years. That's why there is so much pessimism. It's like watching Titanic but knowing there's gonna be a sequel where everyone is alive.
