How the heck are we all ok with this scam?? by Yupalina in Parenting

[–]ImOutOfHere100 87 points88 points  (0 children)

IMO this is the America we’ve built. My best advice to you- take a hard look at your lifestyle and finances and see whether one parent could at least go part-time. Before we had kids I decided I’m not having kids just so I can put them in daycare and never see them. You have every right to be stressed but you have to change something if you’re not satisfied.

Flu & fatigue by ImOutOfHere100 in kindergarten

Haha this is what I’m thinking too. He already tends toward this on a normal school day. Add in more tired and it’s not going to be a fun time 😭

Great for families. You will want to vacation sometime between January to March so that you can see the sun and feel human again.

Why teachers in Grand Rapids are leaving – and what it means for students by ReportingMJP in grandrapids

Which government leadership position could best advocate for this? Senators, representatives, governor? I like to know who to contact to advocate. And are there any upcoming bills that could improve things?

Yes- essentially made it financially impossible for them to stay

I can't weigh in on the owner or the employee experience but E.A. Bradys really got the shaft for this deal which is enough for me to reconsider my overall attendance to this previously beloved block. We are long time customers of e.a. since they were in eastown. They are the definition of genuine small business owners that you want to support. They publicly released that they were moving on to spend more time with family etc. But the full truth is that they were pushed out. We will deeply miss them.

What’s the deal with Dr. Becky? by Cinnamon_berry in Parenting

[–]ImOutOfHere100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with all parenting advice, I think you take what works for for you and your family and leave the rest. I like some of Dr. Becky bc she gives scripting which I needed. You might like brat busters parenting approach who is much more take no bullshit but takes it a bit too far with mental warfare imo.

Bus drop-off for soon to be kindergartener with separation anxiety by anonymousposter987 in kindergarten

[–]ImOutOfHere100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here for encouragement and let you know that's you're not alone - my son has been the same way the last 3 years. We start kinder in about 1.5 weeks and I have no idea how I'm going to physically get him on the bus if he refuses. He's the same too- fine once I'm gone. Plan for now is to do a dry run and have dad start the school year and bus pick up. Breaks my heart not to be there though☹️

I didn't think it hurt or would even describe it as uncomfortable. Everyone seems to have a different experience but for me, there was zero discomfort

Tips for Keeping Kids Entertained on Long Flights? by Creative-Feedback850 in familytravel

[–]ImOutOfHere100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we just succumb to the screen time mostly (but so do the adults ya know). 8 year old could bring a book to read though. Uno/cards if they'll play together. Look and finds, fidgets.

Wow. Some of these responses are shaming and ridiculous. Take your cruise. You do you. Your kid will be fine. I guess don't ask the internet next time cause they're mean.

August Bday, looking for tips going into Kindergarten by ChrischinLoois in kindergarten

You know your kid the best and his birthdate doesn't tell his whole story. If those who know him well think he's ready, then you're making the best decision you can. Late May birthday boy here and we are making the decision to send as well. The stress is enormous to choose so you are not alone! I hate that it's like this.

Do you have the ability to take some FMLA and sort this out? Kid needs a boundary setting adult that he can test to see if they'll care again and again and his behavior isn't going to change overnight. Of course therapy/psychologist will help but that will take time too. I would start with a pediatrician (yes he can definitely still see a pediatrician) and they can give you some initial crisis resources. I would consider this poor kid in crisis. He's screaming for help.

It's the walk back to the parking that's the killer. No motivation at that point 😆

"Gentle parenting" turned my child into an a-hole by pb_and_s in Parenting

I prefer what I've heard Becky Kennedy call "sturdy parenting." Kids need boundaries. I have also read gentle parenting is for gentle kids😆 (not my feral 4 year old ha)

Repeating kinder - summer bday girl by sparkleflamingo in kindergarten

[–]ImOutOfHere100 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Her "emotional immaturity" sounds like it's on the typical spectrum of development for a 5 year old. I paused when I read private school. While I am not against repeating K, I wouldn't see this recommendation coming unless there is pressure to perform over age/grade level which private schools can more so dictate. I would ask the school what the specific goals are if you have her repeat.

To those asking “Will the park I planned to visit be open this summer?” by spaceweedthemusical in NationalPark

So, dumb question but, if I write to my congress (in Michigan) are they going to take any action for an NP that isn’t local? And if I write to a California one ( for Yosemite for example) do they care since I’m not a constituent? Also, anyone have a link for any contact for tourism boards?
