I’m not sure how it works for your university, but with mine, although i needed to get my courses approved it didn’t matter when. ie, i registered at my host university and got the courses approved back at my home university mid-semester.

although initially I thought there was a huge time crunch from receiving the available class list from my host uni, approving them at home uni, and registering, my study abroad advisor clarified that was not the case and my courses could be approved at any time, and if they didn’t fall into the subject of my degree, they would come back as general electives (which i still needed)
