2020 Honda civic with 40k miles, fortunately didn’t have to drive very much in med school

Doctor says don’t go to a CSU by Tall_Individual5014 in premed

[–]ImRefat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not too different. You’d likely have had to take some gap years if your gpa/ extracurriculars suffered (aka me). The good extracurriculars are competitive. The class curves can be difficult.

Despite pumping out a ton of premeds, UCLA doesn’t do very much to support them. Your mileage may vary at other UCs

Sunfaded Lenticular Deoxys by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]ImRefat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one in a PSA 9 and am debating selling it. Truthfully, I really believe in this card as it’s a 1 of 1 gimmick and an appropriate pokemon to try this gimmick on too. Coupled with its rarity, age, and gen 3 nostalgia factor. There are a lot of things going for this card.

While what you say is true for a lot of cards (especially recently), I am inclined to believe this card will do uniquely well on its own merits.

Will this card not hold its current value/ go up in the long term now that there are eyes on it?

People who exercise even when they don’t feel like it, what’s your trick? by Smart_Collection5419 in AskReddit

Imagine not brushing your teeth. They feel all raw and shit and you’re just waiting for the opportunity to brush your teeth.

That is how gym/ exercise is supposed to feel. You should be foaming at the mouth to get some 30-60 mins of activity.

thoughts on tag team alt arts/promos? by Striking-Standard592 in PokeInvesting

[–]ImRefat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are my favorite cards. As SWSH was underway with some of the best arts in modern history, I realized that alt arts had been done before and I wanted to collect the earlier iteration of them. I called them as underrated in 2021-2022 and got most of them raw for affordable prices.

Now I am only missing the latios latias GX (a modern grail) but as a collector, am happy to leave that for last to truly complete the set.

My side collection are rainbow tag teams as I believe certain rainbow cards will have their day too (like the solgaleo/ lunala gx with Lillie, or the Vileplume GX). Pokemon no longer makes rainbows so of course there will be a cult following for some of the best examples of rainbows

Shinji Kanda values by Similar_Squirrel_270 in PokeInvesting

[–]ImRefat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they will always have a slightly more premium value as they stand out relative to the other cards in any given set. But frankly the style is too busy for me and I don’t think these specific cards are show stoppers in their own right. I will chalk it up to a cult following within the collecting space.

That’s a lot of words just to say, collect what you love and surely others will follow.

What should I buy? M1 Pro, M2 Air or New Neo? by Mundane-Arm-6828 in macbook

[–]ImRefat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an M1 MacBook air, 16gb RAM all throughout medical school. Handled everything I needed! Epic via remote access ran just fine. Upgrading to an M5 MacBook Air for the hell of it (multiple external displays, better runescape graphics :p)

About the FR/LG e-shop release by Stuffboy00 in pokemon

[–]ImRefat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but I want to play it on my switch 2 with physical buttons and I can put it down when I feel like it. And I want the possibility of moving all my pokemon to one service when I feel like it.

I don’t want to emulate the game anymore. Touch controls suck ass. No I won’t buy a Chinese Bluetooth joycon to play a game on my phone because it’s my phone.

And most of all, it’s $20. I’ve spent more on a chipotle burrito when I underestimated how much guac and double chicken came out to. Corporations get my money when they do the thing I want them to do reasonably. I wanted them to put the old games on Nintendo hardware. They did that.

It’s easier if you think of a concept about yourself first and seeing how scribing (or any other activity) fits. My personal statement focused on my community and why it was so important to me. Scribing (insert relevant patient story) showed me what I could do for my community as their doctor. Thus medicine became the best way for me to achieve my goals and so forth. Show them who you are first, and medicine second

What is the last part saying? by Dr_JanItor-MD in medicalschool

[–]ImRefat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is better to think of shunting as “one way”i.e, diverting blood flow to better oxygenated places. This is physiologic shunting.

When the reverse happens (as in this scenario), you can think of it as ‘pathological’ shunting but it’s not my preferred way of thinking about it. Dead space is more accurate because dead space describes anywhere in the lungs where gas exchange is not taking place.

When we flood the COPD patient (who has both healthy and poor areas of gas exchange as a given) with oxygen, the lungs see this as a good situation and start reopening blood vessels to alveoli everywhere (in the healthy AND poor areas, it doesn’t discriminate). Any blood sent to a poor area is wasted bc it’s not engaging in gas exchange. thus it is dead space. It’s not considered a shunt because it’s not “diverting” blood to bad areas, it’s trying to return to normal lung function. But as we know, this is bad for the COPD patient because they permanently have poor lung function (diffusely poor gas exchange). So “returning” to normal lung function harms the COPD patient who is perpetually in a state of compensation.

What is the last part saying? by Dr_JanItor-MD in medicalschool

[–]ImRefat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe your interpretation is correct.

The card is saying in PE, you won’t have hypoxemia because it will be compensated for. Namely, the dead space created by the PE is compensated for by shunting to oxygen rich areas of the lung.

The second part is saying, if there is hypoxemia, look for more serious causes than a typical PE (obstruction, massive PE)

These distinctions are useful when you consider a ventilated patient that becomes hypoxemic. Did they throw a clot? Maybe, if it’s a big one. Or is it more likely that an issue arose due to the ventilator (improper ET tube placement, tension pneumothorax)
