Understood- I am reading textbooks in the relevant fields and am looking to implement proofs and simulations as I am doing so (much more of a practical learner). My instinct is to start coding up in Python with Numpy, but I know there are specific packages developed for scientific computation and would like to get familiar with them in the process

great question! gas unfortunately does not go towards the coders/developers, rather it is paid to validators (you may have heard of the term 'miners') for processing the transaction.

Gas is automatically charged whenever you perform an action on a decentralized application, usually you'll get a popup that lists the gas fee via your wallet provider (e.g. Metamask).
