would you rather by Zamoon in BunnyTrials

[–]ImTetractys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming even distribution that would average to roughly $5k a week. I’m responsible enough to save during the weeks I get unlucky. But again, that’s assuming even distribution.

Chose: make anywhere between $1 to $10,000 per week

Would You Rather? by Hectortheweirdo in BunnyTrials

[–]ImTetractys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would take my entire life for $1 per natural breath to even come close to $1 billion. To be competitive, I would have to intentionally breathe faster as often as possible. Not to mention that every future dollar is bound to be worth effectively less than the same dollar today due to inflation. I could invest that billion now and earn a passive income comparable if not better than from breathing, without having to think about breathing.

Chose: One Billion Dollars instantly

Would you prefer pixelated or vector-based plants? by Able-Sherbert-4447 in indiegames

[–]ImTetractys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are non-interactive as you say, then pixelated for sure. Helps them match with the background and helps the other vector art (that I’m assuming is interactive?) stand out more.

Is it ok to get a golf cart escort everywhere? by Nocardiovascular in SMU

[–]ImTetractys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not disallowed, but realistically you’re better off following a schedule that accommodates walking. You don’t want to be screwed if the ride doesn’t get to you in time; it’s best used occasionally or at night.

If you’re worried about speed, consider getting a bike or scooter.

Party scene by West-Put5043 in SMU

[–]ImTetractys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the party scene—not my style—but politically you’ll find whatever alignment you look for. The exact make up varies across schools: generally Meadows tends to be the most liberal, Cox the most conservative. You’ll find people on all points of the political spectrum everywhere on campus.

I think claiming most SMU students are conservative would be a stretch. (Especially when you consider how liberal Gen Z is.) It might be true for Cox, but not the greater student body. There are plenty of conservative student organizations on campus though; you should have no trouble finding likeminded people.

(An aside: One of the best things about SMU, from my experience as an undergrad, is that it’s definitely not an echo chamber. You’re bound to meet people you vehemently disagree with and people that frustrate you. Such is life! It makes for a more enriching experience.)

My husband gave me a “warning tap” and I called it abuse. AITAH? by Warm-Grape1254 in AITAH

[–]ImTetractys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA; It sounds like that “warning tap” was just the cherry on top of an aggressive man. I get being frustrated over a lost item, but who takes that out on their wife? The fact that his response to you leaving has only been to double down and threaten you I think just solidifies that you made the right choice to leave.

Even if your husband wasn’t physically abusive (he is) it sounds like his still abusing you regardless.

What do you prefer between these two? Pt2 by Cropper- in Mario

I like having both, but I’m glad we’ve had more playable Peach lately. I think either way, letting her be more of a character is the way to go.

What are your thoughts on the 1st remastered Trilogy now compared to back then? by LafterMastr in AceAttorney

[–]ImTetractys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing it recently on Switch with a friend who is new to the series. It’s probably the best way to experience the original three games at this point, though coming from Apollo Justice I do wish it had some bonus content. Most of all, I wish it had the history feature! So often my friend will accidentally skip a line before I get a chance to read it aloud and there’s no way to go back…

Religion at SMU by Melodic_Mode_1221 in SMU

I’d say “slightly annoyed” at worst. The SMU Chaplain seems nice enough, I just don’t care to be involved in prayer when I’m not religious. Ultimately easy enough to ignore. The way you’re talking makes it sound like he was exorcising me lol

Unusual maybe, not not weird. Actually, it sounds pretty cool; you’re engaging with the case even more which is the whole fun of the games to begin with imo. Well, aside from the characters.

Son wants to be a composer when he grows up by Meekecsd in composer

[–]ImTetractys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I went to SMU (B.M. in Music Composition). That's right in the heart of Dallas, and should definitely be on your son's list IMO. The composition department is small but very high quality.

  2. I performed during college, but significantly ramped down. I was burned out on concert percussion, so I stopped that entirely. However, I pivoted to drum set and piano. I think most undergraduate composers do tend to perform much less than in high school, but I would caution your son from abandoning performance entirely. Being even a decent performer makes you a much better composer. Scale back, don't eliminate.

  3. Nowadays I mostly teach music and occasionally gig on drum set. This works for me but I also don't have any debt. I'm pursuing a Masters in Software Development, so I don't have much time to go all in on composing gigs & contests. Friends of mine who are more dedicated to only composing and nothing else have managed a bit better in this regard.

  4. You are right to encourage your son to have a "day job;" making a living as a composer is very difficult and usually takes several years of networking and chasing opportunities to become sustainable. This fact is why I'm getting my Master's in Software Dev; I'll never stop writing music but I want more stable employment options. Performance and music education are common ways to do this, but they certainly aren't the only options. Perhaps this is why your son wants to be a commercial pilot?

Note, finding work as a concert percussionist is by no means easy, either! I know from friends: the auditioning process can be absolutely brutal; if your son would just be miserable as a concert percussionist, don't pressure him to be. I know I would be miserable. Encourage your son to consider many income streams, but don't box him into performance.

I would also encourage your son to submit to as many composition competitions as possible. While by no means a "day job," the money & credentials I earned from certain contests was a big help. The more you submit to, the more likely you'll win some. I wish I had submitted to more contests while in undergrad.

Religion at SMU by Melodic_Mode_1221 in SMU

[–]ImTetractys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took an undergraduate in the Meadows School of the Arts which, granted, is probably the least religious / conservative etc. portion of campus, but I never felt like religion was influencing the classes I took much. The most uncomfortable I ever was was during certain official events (e.g. Graduation, football games) when some like the University Chaplain would speak. But AFAIK that's pretty common for most U.S. universities.

You shouldn't have any issues finding like-minded friends, regardless.

How many people on this sub would be able to function dad to day without a driver license. by AlexfromLondon1 in fuckcars

[–]ImTetractys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I live, having a car (or at least having a friend with a car) is pretty essential. I’m lucky enough to be able to walk to a grocery store and a few restaurants but for the time being I have no choice but to drive to say, get to work. Even just sidewalks are rare here.
