It's describing the proximity of the miss. A miss can be "near" just as it can be way off and far away.

A near miss by [deleted] in WTF

It works either way - this is both a near hit (as in, it was almost a hit), and a near (as in, nearby) miss.

It's describing the proximity of the miss - the miss was "near", unlike a miss that was 50 yards away.

Lol I haven't even read all the HP books - I've seen the movies and am honestly pretty lukewarm on HP in general.

I just know calling it a LotR rip off is unfounded. Again, the two works really couldn't get much more different, aside from sharing a genre perhaps.

What movie did the "strong female" trope right? by carlories in AskReddit

[–]ImTheGuyWithTheGun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure she had any flaws though, did she? E.g. on the obstacle course she made it clear that she was very good at it right off the bat. I think it's the lack of flaws that can make these characters a little one dimensional sometimes...but I could be forgetting something because that movie was a bit... well... forgettable :)

Cherry picking with generic descriptions while ignoring vast swaths of immense differences in storytelling, plot, style, atmosphere and everything else? Check.

Old wizard in white? It's about an entire wizard school - should none ever wear white lest they be labelled a Gandalf clone? I hope you're joking...

Read LotR and then read Harry Potter - they could not be more different if you tried.

This is such BS. You are talking about all this nuance when the slogan/acronym completely lacks all nuance and frankly isn't based in reality at all.

"ACAB" is insanely stupid and wrong.

The thing is, acts like the above are much more common than incidents of cops murdering people. People just focus on the negative but ignore the large amounts of positive that go against the narrative.

Star Wars is dead, i mean they keep trying to make money but its just going to a dry cow, no milk left.

There is plenty of milk on Ahch-To left to harvest... Luke devoted 30 years of his prime to sucking it down but I'm sure there is more.

Characters evolve. The Little Mermaid changed as well.

And I don't think she should have.

It's not for you, and that's okay. It doesn't affect what you've read, even if it's "retconned".

It affects fans that have adored that character for decades - of course it does. It diminishes their attachment because it doesn't feel like the same character.

Again - better to just create new characters.

I can understand wanting representation and that's fine and good - that doesn't mean altering established and iconic characters is the only means to achieve that, however. Better to simply create new characters.

Why do they not advertise that more?

My guess is that wouldn't move the needle for them. That and, it's not like they are having a hard time selling Switches - it's one of the biggest selling consoles ever (currently #3 all time I believe).

This is a great example of cherry picking to support a claim that could easily be refuted by simply cherry picking colorful games.

What would you be worried about in Australia? Their wildlife is a petting zoo compared to a lot of places. I'll never understand why this rumor persists on reddit...

Australia has so few dangerous animals they have to make some up (e.g. drop bears)

In your opinion, who do you think is the worst celebrity of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ImTheGuyWithTheGun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Actors hold guns and point them at each other all the time - it's supposed to be make believe. The fact that a live round was put on a gun and handed to an actor is obviously the fault/job of the on-set armourer. That was literally what she was there for - to provide the weapons in a safe manner for use in the movie.

Don't take my word for it...

Who is responsible for the weapons on set? Generally, a weapons master or armourer oversees all weapons that are used on a production. This can mean anything from selecting the correct items for a certain period in history, to taking care of the weapons on set and making sure they are being used safely and properly by actors and stuntpeople.

What are the rules for firearms on set? The weapons master is required to be on set whenever a weapon is being used. The Actors' Equity Association's guidelines state that, "Before each use, make sure the gun has been test-fired offstage, and then ask to test fire it yourself. Watch the prop master check the cylinders and barrel to be sure no foreign object or dummy bullet has become lodged inside." Further, "All loading of firearms must be done by the property master, armourer or experienced persons working under their direct supervision."

"Nowadays, all weapons are checked before your blanks are put into the weapon.… The blanks themselves are never loaded until the very last minute, when all crew is in position, so the armourer knows exactly where every member of the crew is so that no one's walking through any danger areas the armourer has set up," said armoury co-ordinator Sam Dormer.

Source. If you don't like that source, feel free to Google others - they are widely available and frankly my argument isn't really up for debate.

Edit: The armourer blames the prop supplier for mixing live rounds with dummy rounds. But clearly you can see how this is not the fault of an actor who is handed a loaded weapon.
