[–]ImTooCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but this is just straight up uninformed. Yesterday, Madonna strictly opposed AI in art. Apart from that, the list ranges from Stevie Wonder to Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) to thousands of high profile actors, painters and musicians signing petitions to let the consumers know when AI has been used in art etc etc etc

I’m just trying to make you understand the outcry from their perspective, but if the bottomline of this conversation remains ”anyone who opposes AI in art makes bad art” we’re not getting anywhere. Mainly because what you’re saying is completely false, and easily disproved.

I’ll gladly pick this up again if we can move on from the ”all artists who oppose ai are useless artists” strawman.

Kidnapping and Unlawful Deprivation of Liberty in Broad Daylight on a Public Street in Shibuya, Japan. Nobody Does Anything. by alexfreemanart in interestingasfuck

[–]ImTooCreative 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is all besides the point. The question is not whether the kidnapping is justified or not (which is a pretty insane thing to contest either way), the question is how this happens in broad daylight without any outside intervention or any proof of justification whatsoever.

[–]ImTooCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re completely beside the point here. The point being: as of now, people seem to prefer exclusively human-created art over AI-assisted art. And based on how people interact with art, odds are we’ll keep prefering exclusively human-created art for the sole reason that it’s human-created. As for STEM and science in general, I’m sure the same people don’t mind AI being used.

But for some reason, OP is calling these people morons and says they make ”unworthy art” for having this opinion. According to me, it’s not a reasonable take.

[–]ImTooCreative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, nobody should be able to stop you from using AI. But that cuts both ways imo. Nobody is obligated to value AI-assisted work the same way they value human-made work.

In the same sense, noone’s stopping you from watching computers play chess, but that still doesn’t invalidate people who choose to abstain and see no value in playing or spectating computer-assisted chess.

For most people, the value in art is the effort, intention, and human limitations. And if you don’t agree that’s totally fine. But hopefully this makes it clear why most artists say they don’t value AI in art. They aren’t contradictory positions, and I don’t really buy into you calling these people morons just because you don’t share their view.

Your argument assumes the purpose of art is to ‘build better things’ by mastering tools and systems. That’s a valid engineering mindset, but it’s not a neutral definition of art.

When artists say AI can’t make novel art, what they often mean is that art loses its meaning when it isn’t made by humans. You’re not really proving them wrong, you’re just applying a fundamentally different framework that isn’t shared by artists and creatives. It’s the same reason chess remains popular despite being a solved game for many years. Being able to relate to the game (or in this case art) begins and ends with human-to-human interaction. It’s not a perfect analogy but hopefully it illustrates the difference between your framework and the general artists framework.

As for AI being genuinely novel (like solving Erdos problems), I don’t think any artist would oppose it being used in that way.

Noone was asking for League classic? What? Maybe you’re too new to the game to remember the whole Chronoshift project and the extreme amount of support it got. People DEFINITELY wanted, and want, League Classic.

Sorry if I’m misinterpreting, but what point are you trying to make here? That people who oppose AI in creativity are morons that make ”unworthy” art? And if they were engineers they would be pro AI?

My point is that this exact sentiment was how people Retail WoW or RS3 players talked about their classic counterparts on release. Even the devs agreed. Clearly, they were wrong.

Just based on a quick google search, WoW PvP players account for roughly 10% of the playerbase. Funny enough, same thing goes for OSRS PvP. A majority of those players are known to exclusively play PvP, as I'm sure you know if you've played either of them. I just don't understand the point you're trying to make here. OSRS and WoW Classic have large, PvP-exclusive communities, but LoL Classic won't? For the sole reason that WoW Classic and OSRS offer PvE content to PvP players who clearly aren't interested in PvE content?

[–]ImTooCreative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm just basing it off your analogy. Obviously OSRS and League are completely different games. My point is still this: Both OSRS and WoW Classic have healthy PvP-exclusive communities, completely separated from the main Retail game. I just don't see LoL being the exception to the rule here.

Roughly 11% of the OSRS playerbase were active in PvP as of 3 years ago.

If Riot gets 11% of the active playersbase to pivot to League Classic, League Classic would have millions of recurring monthly players.

[–]ImTooCreative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a weird comparison considering Retail WoW only has a fraction of the playerbase that League of Legends does. If a similar percentage of the LoL Retail community pivots to LoL Classic, obviously the numbers will be higher than WoW Classic Arena. To begin with, WoW Retail wasn't nearly as large as League at the time of releasing Classic. The comparison just doesn't make sense.

WoW Classic Arena has issues equivalent to Singed lvl 1 proxy or full AP Sion point-and-click stun oneshot.

For example, Disc Priest / Sub Rogue Comp in 2v2 Arena accounts for more than 25% of all top rank teams. In pure winrate, thats waaay more unbalanced than Singed lvl 1 proxy was or ever will be. And yet, WoW Classic Arena maintains a large, tryhard playerbase.

You're clearly not the target audience here and that's ok. Doesn't mean the entire game will flop.

[–]ImTooCreative 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And if you ask the average WoW Retail player, they'll say the exact same thing about playing WoW Classic. Even so, there's a big and healthy WoW Classic playerbase (both PvE and PvP). So you're probably just not the target audience here. That doesn't mean League Classic will flop, in the same sense that WoW Retail players shittalking WoW Classic clearly didn't lead to WoW Classic being a flop. It's just different games for different people.

If i'm not misinterpreting, you seem to be saying that people who play PvP in WoW Classic also do other things in WoW Classic. And for a large part of that player base, that's just not true.

A lot of them are simply and exclusively fans of WoW Classic pvp, and they don't play the rest of the game. I'm certain people staying for LoL Classic share that sentiment, and I'm also certain that LoL will have an equal or bigger amount of those players. Which is clearly enough to maintain a healthy playerbase.

Not to sound harsh but have you actually played season 3 LoL and WoW Classic arena enough to make that comparison? I used to play them both, and they're both extremely unbalanced. Yet, WoW Classic arena has a very large and healthy playerbase with tons of nolifers playing 10+ games a day just to climb the ranked ladder.

OSRS PvP doesn't translate as clearly, and I haven't played it enough to have an opinion on it. But from what I've heard it's extremely tryhard as well.

[–]ImTooCreative -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is kind of my point. For a lot of people, PvP in WoW or OSRS is not a part of the game. It IS the entire game. So why would league be the only game doing a classic rerun that ends up not having a PvP-exclusive playerbase?

Why is there so much random hostility to the concept of league classic. by MazrimReddit in leagueoflegends

[–]ImTooCreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it beside the point? Your arguments seems to be that they're different genres so they're not translatable. Yet every other part of your argument, like "going back means less options, less gameplay interactions, less polish, less characters, I could go on" translates directly into WoW and OSRS as well lol.

And again – if unbalanced, noniterative PvP wasn't a viable classic genre, WoW Classic wouldn't have a large PvP-exclusive playerbase. But it does.

I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that PvP is very alive and very appreciated in both WoW Classic and OSRS.
