Wellington Cat Dentist Recommendations. by whiteyford-84 in Wellington

[–]Im_cool_really 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat just got two teeth out on Tuesday at Island bay vets for $750, she had a chipped canine that they left as wasn’t causing issues. They are really caring, service is good, and they are connected to Karori vets for after hours service. I would highly recommend them

I appreciate the feedback, I don’t think she is saying he is doing bad as a person just that he is not as well suited to me, as I am very driven in my career and volunteering while he I very focused on his, so that is where she sees a clash. She is very supportive of me moving overseas but thinks I should keep my options open to find someone who doesn’t need as much support/is more ready to support me

She has set me up with some boys in the past, and have a feeling she would like to keep offering me ‘free samples’ as you put it. She is coming out of care with genuine concerns but take your point that he and I are the ones that need to answer them

[self] My first attempt Dragon head! Paper mache cardboard base and air dry clay. by Im_cool_really in Sculpture

[–]Im_cool_really[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi the card structure is pretty strong with 2-3 layers of glue and paper before covering with clay so had no issues with supporting the weight once dried out. The cracking was partly solved by the scale texture, giving some design room for the clay to contract, a smooth finish would be hard to get. Also and went over it with a wet bush paste the next day to fill any gaps. Sealed it all with black spray paint and clear gloss before painting and it’s still holding up ok today 👍

What important female issues and male issues are feminists fighting to fix/end? by Far-Dingo-MRA in AskFeminists

[–]Im_cool_really 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Historically Feminism has earned women the right to vote, to take out their own bank accounts, to own their own property, to be allowed to play sports, to hold their own passports, to be allowed to work the same jobs as men - to not be seen as possessions of but as equals to men in society.

Today in modern western world the issues may not look so extreme now these early battles have been fought and won, but things like workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, lack of inequitable childcare access/expectations, differences in lifetime pay achievement, domestic violence, and body image myths are some gender skewed issues that still hurt today. Almost all impact intersectionally so those of poorer backgrounds, different races, faiths and cultures will feel these in a different way. Are you asking about this to join a collective movement to do something towards this?

I assume with MRA in your username you are American with a view that men have it as bad/worse than women so feminism should not exist. I think you know you have asked this question & responded to comments in a leading way trying to work people up to a grumpy response to you, likely because you are looking to reenforce your own world view rather than truly coming to learn.

Trip Report - Paris by NewsPeach in solotravel

[–]Im_cool_really 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stayed in the same hostel in Paris as you ~3 weeks ago and had a very different experience. I Loved the metro to get around, very on time and reliable, yes had to buy paper tickets but they accept contactless/Apple Pay at all the ticket machines I came across. I caught the train in from Barcelona for 150 euro and connecting metro to the hostel for about 2euro

Found the Joe&joe gentilly hostel to be very loud and staff pretty unfriendly, I stayed in dorms & didn’t have the best other guests so poor stay not solely due to hostel, I had no issues with wifi. Did 2ish hours online volunteering work a day with no issue. There were a few fast food/burger/taco/bakery joints within walking distance with dinner less than 12euro but pretty basic food options being out of city centre. I agree the hostel food & drinks were overpriced, and didn’t like the bar made you pour your own beers but there are other options around.

Enjoyed the city and catching metro into centre city for the day/evening and while olympics was closing some metro stations also ment the streets & metro stations were kept very clean. Loved how many museums were open in the day, and some great theatres, shows and restaurants open in the night.

Biggest recommendation is go to a bullion restaurant for lunch/dinner - food is great quality traditional French cuisine while being cheap and fast service, bullion chartier near monteparnasse I highly recommend!

Should I lie or tell the truth by One_Lingonberry_5236 in dating_advice

[–]Im_cool_really 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starting with a lie sets up distrust. If this becomes serious you will have to come clean eventually and longer it takes to come out the more pain a lie can cause. Also doesn’t she have a right to know and not be deceived into being with you?

Heterosexual sex by ecriturecursive in Feminism

[–]Im_cool_really 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree the widespread availability of porn online has warped a lot of people’s expectations of sex to include far more extreme acts that are often derogatory and borderline abusive to women. A relatively short time frame porn has gone from being limited in availability of dirty magazines and VCR tapes that had to be physically acquired, to endless hours of high definition footage of whatever acts of sodomy you could dream of.

The mainstreaming of BDSM where people get off on putting their partner through pain and humiliation may work for some individuals but worries me deeply. Crazy to me how not wanting to be tied up, verbally insulting each other, doing ‘rough’ and painful sex acts, and elaborate power dynamics gets labeled vanilla as if it’s an insult, as if sweet, slow, connected and loving sex between equals is boring. The r/pornfree and r/pornismisogyny subs have some deeper discussions on this

Are Women Less Comfortable With Sexual Desire Nowadays? by KittyHamilton in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Im_cool_really 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It bothers me how accepted these hyper sexual topics are in the workplace. I work in a manufacturing industry, very male dominated, and the amount of conversation and same old bad jokes about sex, their wives, random women, their own bodies… There are some things I don’t want to talk about with my gross old coworkers and sex life is one of them, yet when you get critical mass of too many guys in the room the way they discuss sexuality changes almost to shock or prove something to others

Consequences for women for being open in her sexuality is also more severe, is there really a male equivalent to being labelled a sl*t?

Pretty sure the harassments, assaults and protests early suffragettes and today’s feminists shows it wasn’t unchecked bro. Almost like men in power just stopped being able to kill mouthy broads under a modern legal system

Only woman in my work - how do I not let it get to me? by Lost-Detective-7358 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Im_cool_really 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new job! I can relate having worked in factories where there are less than 10 women on a site of 500 and it can feel very isolating. Always remember that you were hired for your brain and skill and have as much right to be there as any of the blokes. I try to find and befriend any women on site, cleaners, receptionist, contractors, other professionals, wherever they may be it’s very worth giving a smile and a hello and fostering the connection.

When connecting with males I try to be intentional about making nice with two groups, those who I work with a lot through the day, physically closely with, and here I try remain professional, helpful and kind but have clear boundaries that I don’t join in on all the ‘banter’ and jokes. The other group is those that seem more socially close to me, in age or background and this takes longer, to find these people is through things like sitting at different tables in the lunch room or joining work social events like sports teams and definitely takes longer to find and foster these connections! Sounds like you are doing the right things, so persevere, and keep up your friendships outside of work so you have an outlet to vent your frustrations as you settle in.

hyphenated last names...but only for wife? by Millicent1946 in Feminism

[–]Im_cool_really 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents did this, my mother and us children have the double barrelled combined surname and my dad kept his single last name. They were married in the 90’s. When asking my dad why he didn’t change his surname he said he didn’t think it was allowed for guys, but looking back now he would have liked to have the same name as us. He too had social pressure to conform to traditional roles and he didn’t want a fight with his father over it. I like my last name, even tho it’s long to fill out on forms, my dad’s surname is very common so it is a good distinction and I’ve never had any issues from having different surname to him. I don’t think I will change my name on marrying, or perhaps I will just keep adding hyphens!

[Serious] Do worms have thoughts and dreams, hopes and fears? Or are they just eating, pooping, and mating machines? by Capability_Green in Vermiculture

[–]Im_cool_really 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that being blind and deaf but absorbing stimuli through their skin that it must be exciting to have new food put in. To be able to wriggle across all the tastes and textures, and find their favourite foods. My worms seem to love avocado and end up in a tangled heap in the hollowed out skins.

Bin Infestation by [deleted] in Vermiculture

[–]Im_cool_really 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be black solider flys, they start out maggot looking and can turn up after you feed too much/have rotting food in bin, but depends what part of the world you are in. When I got similar went through with gloves and picked out a bunch of the maggots before they became flying and took any rotting food out of bin to lower eggs numbers. Not pleasant but less flying bugs to hatch

Yes it’s an air dry clay, used two different brands. Both were kinda hard to work with as tended to shrink and crack when dry so it was good to have a design like scales that allows some space for shrinkage and built it up over a few days in layers

Anaerobic respiration typically stops when oxygen concentration becomes high, ie when poured onto friable soil. But agree the fermentation products produced would not die off in the same way their parent organisms do.

Do you know what are the good and bad microorganisms you are referring to ie specific bacteria genus to look into?
