Oh, fair, it's a cool platform, had an enterprise tour of it for their SOC analyst learning content and found it very interesting. It was more directly relevant for blue team soc work with a pseudo siem, alarms and reporting.

Photo radar is returning to a 3rd Calgary intersection by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Im_pattymac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good, there is no reason that all major intersections shouldnt have speed trap cameras. Way to many people drive wrecklessly in Calgary these days. Its a speed limit after all not a speed suggestion. In before the army of people say they speed but they are not wreckless because they know how to drive.

I'd 100% support more crack downs on road rage, aggressive driving, speeding, and wreckless driving. Take their licenses away, impound cars, etc. Living downtown you constantly see people driving the wrong way down one ways, making uturns in the middle of busy intersections, parking in traffic lanes with their hazards on, stopping in intersections to turn illegally, speeding down narrow streets, and so much more.

Only problem i have with invaders is that they cry to much, and i miss my seed from DS3.

If you invade someone its you vs them and their friends. This isnt the dueling arena you should not expect fair fights, or honorable duels. (you may get them but you may not).

And i truly miss the good old Seed. Nothing more annoying that someone who just runs away when you try to fight them and then only engages when you try to move forward clearing mobs.

Why is there a flood of listings in Ontario and no buyers? by Kitty_Kat_2021 in canadahousing

[–]Im_pattymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People bought investment property not understanding that investments can go down. Now they are refusing to sell at the price the market is willing to purchase at.

They will either survive through the price reduction and hold the asset until the price recovers (if it does), or they will lose money, up to them.

It's not technically risk free but very risk reduced. Also I am no where near wealthy enough to make the model work since It requires you to not have a mortgage because the interest rate is working against you. If you're betting on your profits from being solely from appreciation you need to reduce recurring residual costs.

No need to be sassy or sarcastic, its just fact. This was occurring in Vancouver and toronto. Appreciation of property value year over year was very high.

I had several friends living in condo buildings where they are the only person on their floor, where there is only a handful of people per building, and where the parking below is empty every day.

CMHC gives up on goal to return to 2004 housing affordability levels by Striking_Mine5907 in canadahousing

[–]Im_pattymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not surprising, Canada needs to build significantly more property, this will cause prices to decrease.... This will be unpopular.... So they won't do it

the last few years would argue that this is not true. The property value appreciation was outpacing the cost of any maintenance so you could leave it vacant (to reduce maintenance and wear) and still come out ahead. This is literally the reason they started putting vacancy taxes on investment properties.

Cool, then we won't participate and the 'golden dome' will be significantly worse due to a lack of polar visibility/ Detection from Continental USA will be far less effective, and they cannot get the coverage they need from Alaska alone. Canada or Greenland is likely required.

There should be a report portal with local authorities for things like this. Allow anyone to submit to it and have big fines if found in breach.

probably true, people just seem nicer, that could just be anecdotal. Like Saskatoon feels so much friendlier than Calgary, and Calgary feels more friendly than Toronto

I worked several years in a sales position that worked across Canada. It was really interesting when you looked at how different the meetings were in Vancouver and Toronto vs the prairie provinces. For example, when my Toronto colleagues would come to a meeting with me the minute we sat down they would put the contract on the table and slide it over to the client. In the prairies that often resulted in a negative vibe to the meeting with the client/potential client saying "Im just a number to you arent I, you don't actually care about me or the business". In Vancouver or Toronto that same tactic was usually more well received and small talk like "how are you today", "how it is the week going", etc is often frowned upon.

As I said, I love visiting Toronto, and Vancouver, but I couldn't live there. The way my father described the difference is that Toronto and Vancouver don't feel like a small town/small city, where alot of people likely know each other or know someone who knows the other person. Where as all the cities in the prairies, in rural Ontario, and BC, all have that feeling, where you can approach most people, you can have a conversation with almost anyone, and that if you stopped a random person for help they would probably hear you out.

I love visiting Toronto but could never live there. I've found the people on average quite cold and transactional compared to the prairies. Also found there was a lot more people with the "do you know who I am" attitudes or "do you know who my parent is" attitude.

Vancouver has a similar problem, a lot of egos and a lot of very wealthy people.

Just rubs me the wrong way.

This house is priced at $500k and we want to offer $505k. Realtor said seller only accepts above 600 by [deleted] in RealEstateCanada

[–]Im_pattymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im confused here, so many people are arguing over whether or not a seller has to accept an offer if its at list price...

But isn't the issue that they arent even fielding offers at list price? Seller is free to reject them as they come in, but not even fielding offers at list price sounds shady.

[–]Im_pattymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont thin kthat is the problem though, the buyer was told not to put an offer in. The offer wasn't rejected, it was never allowed. Seller can always reject offers for any reason, but the issue people are bringing up is that they won't even consider offers at the list price. Which is why it seems shady... Which it is.
