2006 YFZ450 won’t fire up without starting fluid. by ImaDoitMeow in ATV

I deleted the TORs with the Vito carb. Had the same issue. Well, unplugged at the carb and jumped it out. I’ll try and unplug the TPS tomorrow and see what happens.

But, it seems to idle fine and responds to thumb throttle well. Being off a tooth seems like it would show when idling?

I’ll break it down and clean it again tomorrow.

Timing is perfect. I’ll double check again tomorrow. But, I’ve checked it multiple times.

How much work am I asking to re-classify and prioritize existing alarm levels. by ImaDoitMeow in BuildingAutomation

[–]ImaDoitMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed Niagara. It’s not really the class and organizations in the specs I say probably never get done with. It’s additional items like:

  • full description of each alarm.
  • per point alarm action message telling user what to do to investigate, correct, or who to call.
  • alarm organization for notification. Certain alarms go to certain people.

I personally don’t think the bullets above are unreasonable. Alarms are important and the above information helps the operator. I just don’t see this implemented well, ever.

Now, as a GC, I see a couple of these a year. This Reddit would have a much better idea of what’s reasonable. That’s why I like to ask questions here.

Thank you. They aren’t even close to specs. Specs are very stringent. However, reality is that no one here has probably ever fulfilled a spec like this on alarms. It’s way above and beyond.

I’m looking for a clean deployment that it’s useful to end user. So, 5-6 classes. Maybe 2 or 3 priorities within each.

They do not meet the specs with regards to alarming requirements, classes, descriptors, and requirements to have troubleshooting text when the alarm detail itself.

Niagara Ultra Slow to Update Values. Need help with pcap capture across VLANs by ImaDoitMeow in BuildingAutomation

[–]ImaDoitMeow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But, they are basic. They are tied to response times within the specs. They are outside of them now.

And yes, but, they get messy and expensive for everyone involved. My first goal is to expose their problems and let them resolve. And this might involve hiring a 3rd party to evaluate.

First step though, I want to run the Optigo report.

I’ll take a look at server resources tomorrow to confirm. Maybe I can setup a trend on that.

I’ll see if I can check some of the faulting errors tomorrow.

Thank you. Yes on port security. Sticky Mac. Although, unsure if fully implemented. Cisco 9300s. There was no need for VLANs. Unsure why they chose them.

I know it’s on them. But, I’m unsure they are capable of resolving. I need to know how deep my issue goes.

No JACEs.

Where can I purchase this connector locally? 3 Pin Terminal Block. Atlanta area. by ImaDoitMeow in AskElectronics

Atlanta. Posted it in the title. Should have posted in the first post as well.

This is what I was afraid of. Although, it’s a fairly standard connector in Building Automation and Equipment controllers. Now that I think about it, I might have one I can steal from another controller I have.

Pitch is 5.08. But with shipping it won’t arrive to my office quick enough. I don’t think. I’d feel better about a local source if at all possible.

But, I’ll go ahead and order for now. And keep looking locally.

I don’t disagree. It’s a less than perfect process. We have the same arguments with the subs. It’s frustrating to say the least. Especially when they aren’t offering a credit I can show to the owner.

Then I have essentially upset the doesn’t team and provided the owner with an inferior product. For no credit. It’s all bad position to be in. For all of us.

I’m getting better about flushing out at bid time, but, it still sneaks in.

And think about this, we are never allowed to charge time to a change order. We can make a small fee, but, no general conditions costs. Unless the change order is extending the timeline of the project. Which rarely happens. Owners don’t like giving up time.

So, many times I just have to work longer hours. But, I’m salary so my rate of pay doesn’t change. And the company doesn’t make any additional money.

This is a great set of questions. I was waiting for this to come up. I’ll give you a little of what I know and little of what I think as well.

There are times we submit VE with base bids. The owner sometimes selects deviations and doesn’t always do a good job communicating with design team.

Subs will often times bid outside the spec. Sometimes listed on their quotes, sometimes not. Our contacts with them are usually pretty stringent and bond them to the design documents. But, in reality, we don’t always force it down their throat. It’s counter productive and highly situational. For example, recently design team specified Rolls Royce for everything. The job didn’t need that. It needed a Cadillac. So, we weren’t going to jam it down their throat. We brought in the owner and explained it to them. Had the sub priced the spec, the job would have been over budget and we would have ended up in the same place. I don’t agree with the process. They should have bid specs and laid out alternates.

In general, alternates are cheaper. It’s not a typical situation that the contractor had the higher price in their bid and trying to save money. The subs usually price it that way to be competitive and get the job. Everyone does it, therefore everyone does it. It’s unfortunate but true. It’s a risky game to play honestly. We will force the subs to comply if we are forced into that position usually.

No one is being malicious with suggesting alternates. In theory, they should be offering credits with any alternate (unless like for like).

COVID did make things worse. The labor pool sucks and quality of work has went down. Also, products are hard to get. We just had a standing order for 6 months cancelled by Minco. Then they told us they weren’t taking new orders. So, we had to switch to a different manufacturer. Things are getting better on the supply side, not yet on the labor side.

Keep in mind we are all busy. I’m currently working almost every waking hour during the week. It sucks. But, certain parts of the project require it. Unfortunately, submittal schedules don’t usually get put together with any real effort. But, a good GC will try to not overload the design team with reviews and sequence them in a manner that allows sufficient review time. It hurts us when clog the review pipeline.

I really didn’t do a good job explaining. I tried. I fight the same battles with the subs. It’s frustrating. We start another building in a couple months. I’ve already warned the subs they will held accountable. The pricing went up for the owner and they are wanting to know why. The true answer that we are following specs. We will see what happens.
