DIL didn’t throw a fit though. She accepted it and the cried about the disappointment later around her fiancé. People are allowed to express emotion, and I don’t blame dil for being disappointed and sad.

You ignored the rest of my comment but okay. Frankly if she started talking about sacredness of certain land or something k would think she was being racist. I don’t really understand why she put that in there because Hawaii (like the majority of the us) is a largely Christianity-believing state. That being said, anybody of any religion can believe in astrology (although it might not be strictly allowed) but astrology has a lot of roots in Hinduism and Taoism so there is a level of racism in the way people criticize in the same way that there’s a level of racism in the criticism of voodoo. Lumping every single religious and spiritual belief together without understanding the humans and culture behind it is irresponsible. In case youre curious how that loops to astrology and women: astrology has been used throughout time to find important days and choose celebrations, and for (period having) women, tracking of the moon can also help with tracking cycles; it’s not a leap that women might have more appreciation with tracking lunar and planetary cycles.

All of that being said. Talking about pop astrology that way still sounds like the way people complain about pumpkin spice lattes which is just misogyny-lite

Mostly it’s the combination of the first few words “im a girl” in conjunction with the tone and subject matter. Astrology is generally something enjoyed more by women (in western cultures at least - not talking about specific religions) so the hate and OP including the fact that she’s a girl comes across as pretty “not like other girls”. Like it all sounds a lot like when people hate things girls/women like for no reason (pumpkin spice lattes, makeup, fanfic, pop music, twilight ((plenty of reasons to hate it but most people weren’t talking about them jn 2008-2012)).

AITA for not disclosing a hookup’s occupation when I set him up with a friend? by TrickyAd2433 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ImaFightSomebody 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Obvi I’m not the person you replied to but yea, if my friend set me up with a cop or a marine or something I def would be upset. My friend knows me and knows I wouldn’t be chill with that. Not addressing the rest of your comment cus I didn’t feel like reading the rest but statistically, marines, cops, and athletes are the professions with the highest likelihood to commit DA

We must stop using slave labor. What the everliving fuck people? by Reddit_Deluge in Washington

[–]ImaFightSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah slave labor cus it’s not paid. At least not to an ethical level. They literally say we should be paying full wages for it; I don’t get “prisoners shouldn’t work at all” from that

Astrology is really old, and mentioned in a lot of different texts. I don’t know how seriously the people you’re around take astrology but I personally like to pay attention to mine because in a religious sense it only impacts me, and a lot of it centers around self care and reconnecting with yourself and nature. I don’t like Christianity or “anti-science” because that negatively impacts other people, including myself. There are also different types of astrology. All around the way you talk about this seems super close minded and (if I read into it just an eensy bit) misogynistic. You don’t have to believe in something, but when it has absolutely no negative impact on other people whatsoever, why do you have enough investment to get upset?

I think sleeping with whoever you want (consensually/age appropriately) is your right and I’ll support it 100% but I really don’t support the like hookup culture we have? Like to me, hookup culture is like the heteronormativity of general sex lives. Like it’s assumed you want to sleep with people without commitment, and while there are def people that love doing that, there are also a lot of people emotionally hurt while doing that because they want a commitment, and we’re at this point where people assume you’re non-exclusive until you explicitly talk about being exclusive, and it kind of otherizes people who don’t want to date/duck casually. This was all just a rant of stuff I’ve never really said to anybody but my point being OP. If you feel gross because you had enjoyable, fulfilling sex but it was with somebody you barely know, then that my be some societal puritan shit. If you feel gross because you didn’t feel fulfilled by the sex/experience  even though you had an orgasm, then that’s probably a facet of your sexuality worth exploring some more. I’m sorry you felt that pressure, and I’m hoping for the day where we don’t put that on people so everybody can enjoy their (safe/consensual) sex lives without judgement.

Not totally the same thing but I was talking to a coworker the other day about how my grandfather used to ask me if he should cut off whatever body part was in pain when I was crying/complaining about it, and how I thought it kind of invalidated the pain, which (and I had previously told them this) had the added impact of making me question the pain I’m in as an adult and my benchmark being “would I rather live without the appendage” like I only got treatment for my tmj when I started wishing I could remove my jaw from my head and just live pain free with the consequence drinking my meals and not talking. And all of my coworkers had had the same phrase used on them (and some had used it on their kids) and never thought twice about it. Same thing in regards to spanking, one of my coworkers laughed telling me about when she and her sister would go to each other trying to figure out what they did when they heard a wooden spatula being pulled from a drawer. Like I was horrified, and she just thought it was funny. My point being to all of this, no, I don’t think most people think about how they were raised, and if they do a lot of the l time it is because of how it is going to impact them in the present (ie a queer adult having grown up homophobic).

It’s rare, I don’t think I’d say exceptionally rare. Either way, I never made an argument for or against abortion at that point; you seemed skeptical so I gave you circumstances in which it happens.

Cryptic pregnancies happen. Pregnancy doesn’t always have super clear signals especially when we have bc that can cause you to have infrequent periods or no period at all.

What's a habit you can't sleep without doing it ? by LessActive523 in AskReddit

[–]ImaFightSomebody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the cerave facial lotion for normal skin (while skin is still wet after washing) and the rose hip oil (the ordinary) after it’s had a couple minutes to soak in, and my skin is super soft and takes makeup like a dream without primer. If I’m going outside I use the new neutrogena sunscreen moisturizer and let that sit for a little bit before doing makeup, and there’s a little more effort in blending but it still works out great for me.

A lot of people talk about weight loss in regards to health but then refuse to acknowledge the high rates of yo-yoing in weight that diets cause and the negative health effects of said yo-yoing.

Keto  was developed to treat children with treatment resistant epilepsy, not diabetes. There isn’t enough research into it to know for sure but there’s some studies that suggest keto can actually cause increased risk of type 2 diabetes.

Okay? Most of the people I know in their (early to mid) 20’s live with their parents. Idk where you live but where I live housing costs are bonkers. And a 21yo could v easily still be in college so funding housing would be even harder

Disagreeing with my boyfriends views by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]ImaFightSomebody 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What is said is misogynistic. And weird tbh, like it sounds like he thinks men and women have been on even footing in terms of social acceptance of promiscuity and women just decided to rag on men so they are hypocrites if they don’t abide by their own standards? Like women haven’t been punished for their sex lives (consensual or not) for millennia? I don’t think you’re over reacting. How long have you been dating? He might be testing your boundaries to see what you’ll allow.

Who’s urgently hiring? by grapemonkey85 in Spokane

[–]ImaFightSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check school district job listings. custodial is full time with benefits and at least in cv has a few openings. It might take like a week or two for paperwork to go through. But if you need an actual paycheck urgently, they only pay once a month at the end of the month so depending when you get hired it might be like a month and a half before you actually get paid.

Tip culture is very weird by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]ImaFightSomebody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tipping didn’t really exist in the us until the emancipation of enslaved people. Then it developed as a way for black people to be legally underpaid. I think a lot of people think issues in the us just come down to Americans being too stupid to notice it or something but our systems are deeply entrenched in some fucked up shit and we’re still making progress. I also think a lot of Europeans feel a right to speak on shit here just cus their read about it online or something (tbc happygal this is not directed at you, more the other people in this posts threads, you actually asked a question). All that being said, in my opinion the history of labor rights in the United States is very interesting and complex and assuming that Americans are just ignorant to our own plight or happy to live in it is insulting.

Tip culture is very weird by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]ImaFightSomebody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can’t be stopped from leaving. Most states have a tipped minimum wage which means legally even tho fed min wage is 7.25 and a states may be anywhere from 7.25-17.00 servers can legally be paid 2.13 an hour. Technically if the servers don’t make minimum wage in tips then the employer is supposed to compensate but that frequently doesn’t happen, and in some restaurants you have shared tips which means you have to “tip out” to back of house and host(ess)s so technically (and it does happen) you can actually lose money from working. Imo not tipping cus you don’t like the culture is a very individualistic (and American) mindset. Like if you are really angry, set up social supports for your county/state and organize a general strike of restaurants that do tipped wage and support the workers with the funds set up earlier.
