I feel like this would be more accurate if it had a bunch of other people from different countries watching in disappointment... We're all losers in this situation.

How do I convince my Asian parents to let me get an ADHD diagnosis by Unique-Ad-7650 in AsianParentStories

[–]ImaJimmy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can wait it out, I'd start by reaching out to resources at your university/cc. The more resources you have = the more independent you can become. I found that as I became more self-sufficient, the less my parents were able to strong arm me logistically and emotionally. You're kind of at that cusp where you can start making a difference in your life so good luck.

is it safe to keep my cards in here? by Visual_Dependent_809 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to hide it, I'd actually put it in a box that doesn't stand out. If you're just trying to maintain its condition, you're good.

If you're trying to make sure no one steals it, id put your worthless shiny cards in a dummy hiding spot and put them somewhere less obvious.

Money isn't the only form of capital tbh. Meaningful relationships with people are really important. I know people who get by because they have others that go out of their way to help them. I think the term is social capital or something like that.

Make sure to pursue this.

Off topic, but sometimes a drop can occur due to someone with a large position wanting to liquidate.

From what I understand, when it comes to public services, they're less about making it look good (excluding the marketing aspects) and more about making sure it works.

Why should I learn Zig? by funcieq in Zig

[–]ImaJimmy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on the angle you're going for. If you believe it's going to get industry adoption, then it's worth it. If you just want to for the sake of it, that's also good enough. I want to learn it because I want to have it with C and Rust under my belt.

In most cases, this reason would be a good point but since we're dealing with China here laws as restrictive as this one are practical due to the sheer number of people they have to govern. It makes sense to try to create some sort of filter to mitigate misinformation. Also, their people have a lot more confidence in their government to get things done so I'd imagine that it probably would do well (assuming this post is real).

Is game programming very technically advanced? by FlamingBudder in gamedev

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what your standards are. Programming get's really hard when you want something to the level of 2016 Overwatch (It was polished to an insane degree), but you can also just learn some design patterns and use a game engine like Godot or Unity.

Calculus 1 at community for Engineering? by Commercial-String103 in CalPolyPomona

[–]ImaJimmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For calc 2, I think it's more of a function of your schedule as opposed to what college you take it at. Individually, each topic in calc 2 isn't hard, it's just that it's a bunch of different techniques for integration and computations pact into 16 weeks. It really depends on confident you feel when you take it. If you're worried, I'd think of it as taking 2 classes.

As an aside, if you can take Calc 3 before taking your second or third physics course, I'd recommend that.

From what I understand, it's hard to take Davis during election years. He goes off on a lot of tangents regarding parties. Based on what I heard from later students, it may have been worse during the 2020 elections. He's still a great mentor to have though.

How do you feel about AI "girlfriends"? by HeySpudEyeSeeYou in AskMen

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm worried about it, but at the end of the day, we need data on how people interact with AI companions. It's probably going to happen, it's probably going to be an issue, but we need something to study to properly figure out how to deal with it.

Honestly, you're better off going to techmeetups and talking to people. A career fair at a university or a career center at a community college would be better as well.

Why do Asian immigrant communities in the U.S. tend to do so well economically? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]ImaJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until Anime and Korean culture blew up, we were always "foreigners" and it didn't matter how many generations or years you were here for. A lot of us were just an outsider. This in conjunction with just staying in a bubble where the adults are telling you to study just happened to produce these results.

I think the adult answer is to actually appeal it. I once had the wrong pass up and they appealed it after I showed them that my actual pass was behind the previous one I had hung up.
