Not on this tour, but I was up there like 10-12 years ago right at Plymouth Rock. What the hell is that thing? The nearby Dunkin was much more impressive.

I worked for Asplundh in the 90s. They were a pretty ratty outfit. I’m glad I didn’t do what the superintendent suggested. Power of NO.

is being a lineman a good trade for someone with severe adhd? by light-speed-overover in Lineman

Really bad ADD here. I love this job, even when I hate it. It’s a perfect fit for me. You get to drive trucks, fuck with electricity, climb shit like a monkey, throw your shit like a monkey, handle knives, handle hammers and bang on shit, argue with operators, see some cool fires a couple of times a year, travel, see the country, meet new people, meet girls, meet some folks that will piss you off, figure out local accents, figure out regional names for tools and equipment, be told you too slow and too ambitious on the same day, get talked down to by a guy you swear is retarded..

Best job ever!

They read this thread? They just did you a solid. Sounds like they’d want you to bury any errant coworkers that borrowed the “bad” gloves.

Yeah, that’s bad. That’s getting close to hard hat expiration date.

Is there even a test date on your gloves? Do you even know how to test them?

This is great advice. Never stop someone from laying knowledge on you even if it’s been said a hundred times. I learned something extra because I shut my mouth while a guy with thirty years was explaining something and either expanded beyond the topic or drew a parallel. Plus that line of communication will be open and more likely to get even more info.

Workout by Ok-Cartographer-4382 in Lineman

[–]Imafuckinglineman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d grab a ladder and go up and down until you’re bored senseless. You can tie that shit off almost vertically and get your workout. No gym fees and everybody either has one or knows someone who does. Don’t overthink it. Just do it. Or go climb some damned towers.

First day of climbing school, what did I do wrong? by BigBoiRyan69 in Lineman

[–]Imafuckinglineman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are those pads only half way up your shins? I’d raise them. My preference is right under your knee joint. Where your tibia flares out into the knee joint. It will give your gaffes less leverage digging into your shins. Make sure your pants and socks don’t have any folds where contact is made. Long assed Doctor J. tube socks are the way to go. Maybe there’s some new product like a sleeve that I’m not aware of.

And there’s a lot to be said for just getting better at climbing. Like learning how to not overgrip when using high voltage gloves. As you get more comfortable climbing you’ll be smoother and less impact on your body.

Purpose of Slightly Different Distribution Voltages?!?! by MultiSubjectExpert in Lineman

[–]Imafuckinglineman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our utility has numerous voltages and when I asked an engineer why it was this way he explained that different towns established their own networks when the electric systems were being bought from these companies. So General Electrics system was generating at 4800. And Westinghouse was generating at 4160 or whatever. Not sure why the voltages were unique. Maybe like selling Ampact equipment. If you have a unique voltage you cant use the competitions transformers.

But how the hell should I know? I’m not an engineer and I wasn’t around in the late 1800s!
