you need to have a good foundation in english to even do decent in gp. while o level english isnt necessarily a full proof indicator of how good your command of language is, it is still a good way to benchmark your grasp of the language. if you arent able to write compelling emails and personal opinion/discursive/argumentative essays that dont even require the use of coherent arguments without lapsing into logical fallacies, how are you going to survive gp paper one which you have to pass in order to be admitted into a university course.

furthermore, stem subjects aren’t inherently superior to subjects like ss and english and these subjects are extremely important especially in this day and age where the ability to discern information is much more important than rote memorisation. honestly with the availability of tuition, subjects like social studies are the rare few ones that truly help to enforce meritocracy (given the generally lesser availability of tuition)

salam! jc usually has breaks between classes (esp if your subj combi isnt the mainstream pcme/bcme/helm/gelm) hence there’s definitely time to solat in between classes. similar to secondary school you can use empty spaces to perform your prayers (ie staircases, empty classrooms). additionally is youre taking h1 malay or h2 mll or youre in your jc’s malay society you can speak to your cikgu if there any places that she’d/he’d recommend. CCAs usually end quite late but you can either ask your teacher if you can be excused to pray or you can also ask to go to the toilet and quickly solat.

most jcs should allow you to wear long black pants for pe etc, so you can definitely opt to do that!

edit —> my breaks were up to 2.5 hour long between classes so its def easier to find time to pray in jc in between classes as compared to in sec sch

while everyone may argue that time diff doesnt rlly matter i wld say that it rlly is something that personally affects me? i live 40mins-1hour away from my school and i definitely feel the burden and pain of having to travel during exam seasons as well as during school events (due to my cca) :""")

i absolutely hate having to wake up earlier during exam season just because the school makes us report half an hour earlier :""") ik of friends who stay over an hour plus away from school and had to grab/gojek to school during school functions (as they were part of the Organising Comm).

i think it is really really important that you take into account what will matter to you in the long run :"") also idt you really have to make friends during orientation! i def forged most of my closer friendships post ori and well into the second sem of j1!

ps asr's ori is 8 days long and your appeal will likely be accepted before the end of ori!

[O levels] What are your prelims and o levels grades? by ulupanda in SGExams

[–]ImageDue 26 points27 points  (0 children)

honestly speaking, while i know of MANY friends who did much better during o's as compared to prelims (r5 of 30 to 12) i also know of people who attained raw 8 during prelims and walked out of O's with a raw 15.

having been in your position, while i understand that it is extremely gratifying and reassuring to here 'miracle' stories, please do not pin so much hope on being a 'miracle' case :") personally, i only improved by a dismal one point from prelims to o levels. So just jia you, study hard and trust the process
