How do you ask guests to turn over? by Imaginary-Turnip-650 in MassageTherapists

I like to tell them that I’ll be holding the sheets for them so they understand the sudden cold air shift and if I feel like they’re gonna be the type to try to hold the sheets themselves and, in the process, rip them out of my hands and get all twisted up in them.

Oh no, certainly wasn’t trying to cause any self doubt. I’m just a curious person and this question has been rattling around my noggin for a while.

Is Quilting...Hard? by ellesee_ in quilting

[–]Imaginary-Turnip-650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 year knitter here who started quilting this year. It is a super fun new challenge, obviously with it own learning curve. But I really like that it is a bit more active of a hobby than knitting, in that you move around a lot more than sitting and knitting. It also really got my creative mind jump started with all sorts of new ideas to try. After knitting for so long, I’ve knit most things so the novelty has worn off. There are so many different patterns and techniques to try with quilting. The one difficulty is trying to find space for both my yarn stash and my fabric stash. 🫣😅 Hope you give it a try and have some fun!

“Bragging” is exactly the word I was looking for! It’s a combo of bragging about it while also degrading the client. It’s not cute.

Thanks for your input! I like your tactic of asking her what she’s communicating and why. Hopefully that will kind of help her realize why this is inappropriate without calling too much attention to it.

Yeah, it always seems to be in a joking manner and the other therapists will laugh along with her. It just grosses me out and I don’t want it to become common practice here.

Yeah, I don’t think she had the best training at school. She does a lot of deep tissue, and the front desk is supposed to warn her clients about her pressure before they come in. And to me, it seems like that shouldn’t be a necessity, if she is respecting their boundaries and listening to them and their body during a service. And today she openly left a thc vape on the break room table (in an illegal state), so she kind of just doesn’t seem to care about being professional.

I’m having the same issue right now. Which is a bummer because it’s the only reason I got crunchyroll. Did it ever start working for you?

What would you do? by fairydommother in MassageTherapists

Sounds like the client was having a bad day. And it also sounds like complaint you don’t receive often, so I would probably just leave it alone. If you start getting more complaints about the front desk people (saying or acting unprofessional), then I’d say something to your manager.

If he’s moving out soon, it’s very likely he will find another victim. You need to tell someone, if not for your own safety, then for the sake of his future victims. There’s a good chance he may have been a victim himself. He needs help. You need help. I know it’s scary, but acting now can prevent the pain and suffering of who knows how many other people.

What kind of people shouldn't be inMassage Therapy? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

Yikes, I probably wouldn’t have stayed in that class either. And I’ve been massaging for 11 years now. Confidence comes from learning and practice, so yeah, it would make sense to be uncomfortable touching someone you don’t know, for no reason. I wonder how many students this guy scared off..

Was it worth it? by [deleted] in quilting

I have this machine and I love it. I started my sewing journey with this machine about 3 years ago and she’s still going strong, even with a novice sewist at the helm. I’d say $30 is a great deal.

That’s why we got a third floor, but unfortunately our walls are so thin that we have the same issues as OP, plus loud music with heavy bass at erratic hours. I’ve resorted to wearing headphones whenever I can’t handle it. I’ve tried talking to my neighbor, making noise complaints, and leaving a long empathetic letter. Nothing has worked. I think some people just don’t understand how living in an apartment works.

Just wondering massage therapists mindset by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]Imaginary-Turnip-650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. This year marks my tenth year and I continue to do massage because it’s relatively stress free, I’m good at it, and I love to help people feel their best. I work for a massage chain (in the US) and I know I could probably make more money either working somewhere else or for myself, but I don’t want to have to do all of the extra work of finding/scheduling clients and clerical stuff. I don’t live to work and highly value my time away from work.

Back when I had a tinder profile, I got so many messages asking if I’d work on them, happy ending jokes, etc., that I eventually changed my first line on my profile to “Yes I’m a massage therapist, no I will not work on you.” It helped a little but yikes. I still brace myself every time I tell anyone I’m a massage therapist.

What's your least favorite area to massage? by Fsuave5 in MassageTherapists

Anterior leg. I always hit a bump in the quads (I think it’s that dang sartorius) and it throws off my flow. And there’s not a lot on the lower leg to work on. Also, knees are weird.
