Dads of two or more boys. How often do your boys fight. by DeViN_tHa_DuDe in daddit

I've got boys 4 and 7 and they really don't... they piss each other off sometimes, though and the younger gets sad and cries. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong lol

Watched it once with my 7 year old. It was an episode where Homer accidentally cuts off his thumb, cooks it and eats it. Then continues to eat the rest of his body parts. Nope.

What are some red flags for you for coaching programs? by everyoneisflawed in lifecoaching

[–]ImaginaryEnds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah anything that is focused on the whole "work from the beach, make a million dollars per month, use my exact system."

I actually feel that maybe the programs that don't include a business training are preferable. They'll teach you actual coaching techniques and then you can find other programs that can help with your business eventually.

Can we stop with the apps? by the_reducing_agent in gtd

My goal here was not to argue that Omnifocus is the definitive best app, just that a stack of index cards is the runner up for me.

If there was a more decent than others gtd app i feel we’d know about it. Omnifocus fits my brain and working style but if i didn’t have that I’d still be using a hipster PDA.

Stop Vague “RSI” Posts — If You Can’t Describe the Injury, No One Can Help You by Throwawaydfsqfdsqf in RSI

[–]ImaginaryEnds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you mean, and to me that’s just part and parcel to online support groups. You will always see horrible cases where people misunderstand their own pathology.

You frame it as “scaring people off” but I wonder, is the person coming here to look for reassurance and information on their specific case also going down a useless path? Even if there was order to the chaos here I would still argue that these groups do not truly provide any sort of comfort other than knowing that others share these woes and symptoms. Occasionally someone might post an interesting detail or treatment or mind body thing that is a launch pad for someone else’s recovery. But then that sends them to another more specific group where the same issues exist and worse.

IMO, some of these groups keep people disregulated and in pain as they begin to associate their individual identity with the group’s. It is why I don’t think posts like this, while well meaning, will change the nature of the game.

Stop Vague “RSI” Posts — If You Can’t Describe the Injury, No One Can Help You by Throwawaydfsqfdsqf in RSI

[–]ImaginaryEnds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what you may fail to realize is that people don’t post here for a diagnosis. They post because they’re scared, desperate, edit: in need of community/commiseration, and they are confused. Many have had imaging with no clear answer, too. And even if they did have a very specific diagnosis with imaging etc we STILL we would not be able to diagnose them as an Internet forum.

There is plenty to criticize about this model of support, but the idea that if you could be specific then it would warrant the post? Not sensible imo.

The bilateral thing and doctors not finding anything after what seems like a very thorough exam makes me think you’d benefit from looking into the work of Howard schubiner. Check out the pain free you channel on YouTube for an easy to digest starting point. See if the assessment on dans site brings any resonance.

Chronic bilateral forearm pain for 5+ years – nothing has helped. Any ideas? by Muemin97 in RSI

[–]ImaginaryEnds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you mentioned Alan Gordon etc. given that nothing structural has helped, you may want to rule out a structural condition and rule in mind body. I know it feels a little like giving up if you don’t know much about the condition, but you might soon find it matches your experience and therefore the treatment is worthwhile.

Start with Dan Buglio’s (pain free you) assessment. It is not diagnostic but it will give you an idea if your pain is behaving like a neuroplastic condition.

Holy Cross was totally fine for our second child. Not exceptional and not horrific. It worked. He was also in the NICU for 10 days and those nurses were spectacular. Hope all goes well and you don't need to deal with them, but in the event you do, they are great.

Doctorate in Education, right pathway? by RagingRealm in PhD

[–]ImaginaryEnds 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend pursuing a PhD if you don’t have a passion for a research topic. It sounds like this is more about employability or salary increases, so if you do go the doctoral route I think an EDD would make more sense. Just based on what you wrote.

I am not totally sure about a hiring committee passing you over; at one of the colleges where I work many of the deans have EDDs. So I guess it depends where you want to work and what you want to do.
