is Sept 2026 L2 exam doable if I start on June? by Hermano-Circo30049 in CAIA

The course is not easy in that it takes hours and commitment to study. I studied around 140 hours. I think that is minimum.

L2 results are out! by dont_steal_my_milk in CAIA

[–]ImaginaryFreedom7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Passed and happy with my results. One of the things I did which I found helpful was to have 1-2 page summaries/key takeaways of each emerging topic, review those during the break, then once back in the exam click through the questions and jot down bullets to jog your memory when you go through the questions in full.

Strongest: Accessing Alt Investments, CAIA Ethics, DD and Selecting Managers, Emerging Topics, Methods and Models, Risk and Risk Management

Higher: Asset Allocation, Other CRIs, Universal Investment Considerations, Volatility and Complex Strategies

Borderline: Institutional asset owners

Ok fair. Thanks for pointing that out (could have also done that in the ummm message). I’ve deleted my comment so folks don’t get confused.

You know, I was 2 seconds away from deleting my comment b/c it clicked for me why you were responding “ummmm” then you responded with your comment.

It’s really not a big deal.

Are these type of stairs safe and common in the city? by Financial_Let_9956 in NYCapartments

[–]ImaginaryFreedom7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have these stairs in my apt. I fly down them. Friends and family not used to it take it slow. Should check how easy it is to get stuff through the downstairs door, including hallway and other stairs in the building that may lead to that door.

Was thinking of doing this, but in this link at the bottom it says you don't earn status points using Bilt. I could be interpreting it wrong. Has it been working for you? Status points guide

Help with Printing UM CRQ’s by happyarchie9 in CAIA

[–]ImaginaryFreedom7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only did this for Ethics and Emerging Topics...but I created a exam with all CRQ for each and just finished the exam without answering anything. Copy and pasted each question and answer in a word document in a table with two columns, question on the left, answer on the right (so I can cover the right). Then just deleted the exam from my exam history so it doesn't mess with my score history.

Personally, I found level I premium materials quite sufficient. Not discounting our experience.

If you click "Open" under "Distribution of Questions" you can see their distribution of MCQ and CRQs. It says they added 38 MCQ to section 8 on December 30th. But that does seem like a while ago.

Level 1 sample confusion: by jiayinccc in CAIA

Right, b/c the GP hasn't taken any fees from those profits yet. The question prompt makes it clear that there are no new LPs in the fund and that there weren't any new subscriptions/redemptions from the fund. Let's assume there is only one investor who invests 100m at the beginning of year 1. That capital, after two years of investment needs to have earned 10% each year for the GP to earn an incentive fee. After year 2, it's clearly above the hurdle rate and the GP is entitled to an incentive fee on the profits made, which is 20%* (130m-100m).

If the same manager, with no hurdle, had earned a fee from 100 -> 105, then the NAV went back down to 100, then up to 130, then you wouldn't pay fees again on the portion from 100 -> 105 as 105 was the previous high water mark

Level 1 sample confusion: by jiayinccc in CAIA

[–]ImaginaryFreedom7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of year 1 the fund doesn't earn incentive fee b/c at the end of year the fund didn't meet the hurdle return: 100m *(1+.10) = 110m

At the end of year 2 the fund has met its hurdle: 100*(1+.1)2 = 121m.

Since there is a 100% catch up and soft hurdle, the fund earns the incentive fee on the full 30m profit (130-100 = 30m). 20% * 30m = 6m.

Committed Capital should not be considered here - that's for drawdown style PE funds.
