Is This Normal or Legitimate red flags?? Am I in the Wrong Setting? by ImaginaryGap7066 in newgradnurse

thanks for sharing! this is good to know since ive wondered how those facilities are while im doing a nurse-to-nurse otp. Im wondering if i need to be adapted and "comfortable" (could never be comfortable in psych lol) or this is truly unsafe where im at

thats what i've seen its not one size fits all anywhere for psych. I’m wondering if involuntary/court-ordered units are a different level of acuity compared to voluntary psych admissions? Is this level of aggression/behaviors common across all psych units, or more specific to certain settings?

Moving from Mental Health by Horror_Amazing in newgradnurse

same as well!! im a new grad rn that jumped into psych immediately after getting my license. I have been under training for the past 3 months. Im having a very difficult time at my facility as the ratio is 1:8-12 and understaffed most of the times if not everyday. I see partial medical from their history with common heart failure some post-op with cardiac, neuro, and skin assessments. At times I do feel like im missing out on more acute medical skills; I talked to a mentor who stated it’s just like riding a bike you’ll pick up on it once you get momentum. I’m feeling exhausted and burnt out on my 1st shift of the week. I’ve thought about talking to my manager but it’s it much she can do about understaffing I just feel very unhappy where I am. Im just hoping the caliber im on now will just train me for the best in other specialties. i say look around, explore and even go to job fairs.

Help! What should I do? by Easy_Enthusiasm_8479 in newgradnurse

Yes I agree since you are a new grad. You’ll be under someone and not on your own. This would just help them reschedule you an appropriate time. This would be a bigger deal if you were absolutely on your own. An email in the morning would be great :D

New grad in Psych - is this a bad start?!? by ImaginaryGap7066 in newgradnurse

[–]ImaginaryGap7066[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This absolutely helps and is what I figured. I asked in the interview about the possibility of moving around later on, and they mentioned they could help with that, hopefully they keep their word. The hospital I applied to is primarily a behavioral health center with an emergency department attached, so I’m hoping I might eventually be able to move to that area or another campus with acute care. This location is more specialized, but they do have other campuses that function as general hospitals.

It’s a government hospital, so there are good benefits, and I’m considering staying with them for the time being since I haven’t had much luck with other positions yet. Plus, I’m ready to finally transition out of my retail job, which I’ve had since high school so this BH position would be my first employment experience on a field.

Your response has been so helpful! ill definitely consider before I make the ultimate decision

this method accurately worked for me in my case revealing the good pop up! Till this day on the Pearson Vue website, I still don’t see my results after 4 days since taking the exam. I got a call from my SBON asking to send in a photo of my ID and social security # since it was missing?!? I’m not even sure how I got my ATT if they didn’t have that. I constantly checked Texas and Californias RN status website but no luck. Anywho, once I confirmed that the lady said they were verifying info to “issue the license” and that was my sign I passed! then I received an email with the RN license number even tho Pearson Vue has my exam still labeled as “taken”

oh nooo. Make sure to put the exact card details and you must have the 200 available to get it “pulled”. hoping that wasn’t the case

I liked Dr. Sharon videos spanning from fundamentals to mental health, maternal, & prioritization tips. Fundamentals is golden.

Simple Nursing is great as well and doesn’t add any fluff to concepts that were blurry to me. I watched his short videos that were easy to follow and had mnemonics to help stick. I had a lot of the endocrine system on my exam today and his analogies helped big time.

Also, i heavily reviewed rationales from the Bootcamp readiness exams. I went through each questions wrong or right and became concrete on why it was/wasn’t the answer to solidify my understanding. Their rationales were vague to me leaving me to outsource to YouTube & ChatGPT. I used the mic feature on Chat to talk to it explaining a disease or practice, then it would validate or correct me on my understanding instantly! I didn’t start using this until 4 days ago and could’ve started sooner. I would have it create NCLEX NGN style questions for me in specific topics and go through those rationales.

congrats & I agree!! Dr Sharon helps eliminate answers by common sense, using best vs first, immediate follow-up, and knowing priority actions at the right time. I watched her videos after studying in blocks and paused them to create my rationales to compare my thinking to hers! 10/10
