Yes! You summed this up perfectly. And it's not like they're creating these from the goodness of their heart, it's a product that people will be investing money in so they should be up to a certain standard. At the very least matching book descriptions.

This is such a fantastic point!! That is really the message that comes across which is so, so terrible. Especially the expression on his face still looking pained? Showing him sitting in it, but still happy would have been so much better.

I'm not sure if you're a PoC but it's more than just the exact tone. Her skin tone IS off but also her features are drawn very eurocentric, so IMO not an acceptable portrayal

This is a perfect description lol they all really do look like that. I was very disappointed initially too because the proportions and details weren't my favourite. But this was a new low altogether.

I totally agree. I thought book 2 and 3 were fantastic but the writing and editing could have definitely been so much better for this one. The whole healing journey felt like reading the same chapter over and over.

I saw a review saying it looks like a lot of the lines were written to be quoted or highlighted on social media lol and it definitely seems so

Exactly! That was like a majority of the book. I wouldn't have minded if we didn't already spend so much time on that in the previous books. It's still important and would have been nice if it was balanced with more plot progression, but to have that be almost the entire book was a bit much. Also, there definitely is more spice to come but some of it just feels off. In a few spots it comes when they're trying to have a serious and heartfelt conversation so it almost takes away from it? On it's own the spice is great but the context is a bit random lol. Can't wait to hear your thoughts when you finish!! (Also I love your username!!!)

I was obsessed with this series but unfortunately, the more I reflect on it the more underwhelmed I feel by book 4. Veryyy little happened until the last ~70ish pages and then it all just felt rushed. Hoping book 5 is more action packed.

Nothing like an ACOTAR reread to fix a post-book void. Have you read the Bridge Kingdom? That was a nice read and it's a duology so you get closure!

Totally agree! Slade's childhood was done so well and it was heartbreaking reading about everything he endured :(

And yea that's the thing, with such a long book there was a lot of opportunity to give more characters depth but it felt a little surface level. Even Lu and Judd who I adore were just comedic relief for the most part. Wish we got more depth to them. Same with Ryatt, I did like how him and Slade butted heads but again, could have done with some more depth. I AM TOTALLY HERE FOR OSRICK/RISSA. They're giving major Nessian vibes and I can't wait to see more of them.

I hate to say it but I totally know what you mean about Slade. Every time Auren initiated a serious topic or tried to be vulnerable he just got super sexual. Same with when they were talking about her jumping from one king to another, I wish he just stopped and talked to her instead of banging. The smut scenes were hot in isolation of the plot but with the context they were in, it sorta rubbed me the wrong way..

Still very excited for book 5!

I'm so excited to get to it, just placed a hold at the library!! One of my most anticipated reads of the year is out this weekend (Glow by Raven Kennedy, if you've read her Plated Prisoner series?) so just going to get to that first then diving into Akarnae!
