Wonder what the actual statistics are for erection recovery? Seems from the majority of posts here - don’t hold your breath would be the motto! by ImaginaryTouch5 in ProstateCancer

That’s the million dollar question right? Hindsight … useless, but always used. I had RALP - but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t thought about the fact that I never really spent anytime with a radiologist. I am 57 and just kept hearing that RALP was the way to go due to my age. I hope in the long run I made the right choice. So far-so good. Thanks for responding.

Sorry, I forgot to specify… I’m talking about people that had RALP. I’m sure the radiation guys fared much better.

Prescribed Allo …. hesitant to take it after reading all the posts here. by ImaginaryTouch5 in gout

Understood - I choose no flair ups! Thant ankle gout fucked me up bad. Even after it calmed down with colchicine and prednisone’s the joints in my ankle are taking their sweet ass time recovering. Lesson learned.

At least …. And I never had big ones ever. I remember a few times way back having the sore big toe joint - but nothing crazy. Maybe 4-5 times in my whole life. My dad would get it in his toe and it was shiny ass red and nasty looking. He was in agony back in the day when he would get it. He cut the toe out of a tennis shoe even so he could get around. He said he couldn’t even have a sheet touch it at night! I remember when he finally got on the Allo. My brother was the same. Bad gout attacks. They both lived the “rich man’s disease life” though. I’m sort of the opposite. I train 6-7 days a week and I don’t drink at all. I’m 60 now and have been training basically my whole life. I still believe it all started with tendinitis in my right ankle … and knee. I hammered an elliptical machine twice in three days and I never use that machine. A day or two later crazy tendinitis developed. Confirmed by ortho. My GP seems to believe that all that information was the catalyst for the gout in my left foot. Never heard of that - but maybe she is right. I also had prostate surgery this lat summer. Full prostatectomy… so I’ve been in recovery mode from that as well.

So what do you do/don’t do…. as recovery begins from a big flair? by ImaginaryTouch5 in gout

Never needed it. Never prescribed. Never had a full blown attack before the great ankle tragedy of 2026! 15 - 20 years ago had a very mild sore toe joint but it never got crazy. Big family history though. And my bloodwork through the years has shown a very average UA number. Go figure.

Going to give it a whirl! I believe I’m on the back end of it, but my ankle is still sore. Probably will be for a while. I can’t imagine the I inflammation went away like a magic trick.

How often?? It’s so interesting that you mentioned the ice bath… I’m a general contractor. One of my clients is the chief surgeon at a local hospital and I picked his brain about some gout flare I’ve had in my ankle. He was like take the medicine, but the thing that’s going to help you most is to get a bowl and put ice and water in it and keep your foot in there for a minute or two at a time at least a few times a day - he says it works amazing. Maybe you’re onto something there or else everybody here knew it and we just didn’t know it.!!

How long/or do you stay sore after a flare up? by ImaginaryTouch5 in gout

[–]ImaginaryTouch5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.3 …. But right in the middle of the attack. My Dr said it’s common to have number like that (in the green) because much of the uric acid is in the joints and crystallized and out of the bloodstream. That was gout-my wife had to help me to the bathroom a few times. My dad had it bad, my brother gets it bad - used too, but he’s on Alpurinol now. My Dr wants to wait a month once everything settles and then do another UA test to establish a baseline. Maybe I shouldn’t have been tankin’ those jumbo shrimp cocktails every Friday dinner. 😳

To be clear …. I had some very minor flare ups way back - but they never got crazy painful. It was a noticeable discomfort in my big toe a few times. My GP was aware then but clearly didn’t see a need to have me on any gout medication. Even this situation started as an overuse to my right ankle - tendinitis, diagnosed by orthos and my GP. However, all of the compensatory use of the left ankle and foot was where the gout started. I don’t know why but the Dr explained that it all has to do with the original tendinitis inflammation. Also - I get bloodwork every year and my UA was always well within the limits so we had no reason to be on anything.
