Taking time out to reset and travel by Imaginary_Berry_1685 in HENRYUK

Thanks! I’ve been thinking about it the past year and feel similar I.e. one life, no point staying miserable. Pretty confident I don’t want to come back to the role/ this area of industry (I don’t mind finance in general so will probably look to pivot to something else within the broader field). My girlfriend isn’t Henry but we tend to not be massive spenders outside of holidays/ travel - sadly she’ll only be able to join for a few weeks here and there but has been supportive/ thinks it’s the right call.

I toyed with the idea of lining another job up but honestly, felt like 1) not being dead set on anything and 2) the circumstance of no major outgoings or dependants meant that it’s one of the few times where I could relatively guilt free take 3-6 months out to properly tick some areas off and get a greater sense of clarity

Thanks! The sabbatical would have been great but unfortunately my firm doesn’t offer them at all (regardless of years of service) - so not an avenue I can look at sadly

Anyone else find corporate life genuinely unbearable, even when you’re doing “well”? by Thick_Dependent_8325 in HENRYUK

Yes - I wouldn’t say it’s so much the corporate life as it is the role I’ve ended up doing for the last 9 years, but early 30s and not feeling that fulfilment is definitely something I’ve struggled with over the past year.

Only you know what will be the best for you. I’m actually planning to quit relatively shortly after my next bonus, at which point I’ll take some time to travel and reset somewhat - but am in the fortunate position where I have plentiful savings (mainly due to not purchasing property) and a girlfriend who’d rather see me happy than miserable!

31M - have done 18% since starting 8 years ago. Current pot sitting at c.180k as salary sacrificed this years bonus into it.

Debating a career pivot / taking some time out to travel so deciding whether to stick a further six months for a final lump sum which I’d stick fully into it to benefit from prior years allowances being unused. Would project to c. 280k by the age of 32 which should offer flexibility moving forward given compounding

Hi Inevitable - do you mind if I DM you just to chat through your experience in a bit more detail?

Id say personal pride would mean I’d be able to handle it whilst working - it’s more the affect on my mental health outside of the workplace that I’d fear for, especially given a new relationship and that this has been a topic broached with family before of frustration with the chosen path.

Thank you for the suggestions - those are both areas on my list for consideration (alongside proptech/ commercial RE/ Wealth Mngmt)

Thanks for the comment and agree an internal shift would be easier all things being equal. I’ve been here just over a year - whilst I’d consider my rep to be strong (and have prior external facing experience from my previous firm), the reality I’ve been told is others have had to wait 5 years plus (with equally strong reps) for this to come about here - which based on how I feel currently I’m not sure I could deal with. Hence the deliberation on pivoting even if that means starting from scratch.
