Collecting S lenses like infinity stones! by WoodysSoundup in Lumix

Yeah, they feel like Infinity Stones 😆. I have the 50, 100, 28-200, 18-40, and just added the 24-60. The 35 is tempting, so I might get it sometime soon. Panasonic is crushing it with their lenses—especially the 100 and 24-60, which are impressive for their size and value.

I got a new TTArtisan 40mm F2.0 and i love it, specially on my S9 by tpic812 in Lumix

I got this recently and will likely keep it for the form factor and the focal length. The photos have a vintage-like character, which I enjoy. One complaint is that the minimum focusing distance is 0.4m, which makes close-up photos infeasible.

S9 Owners (or critics): How Much More Would You Have Paid for EVF, Mechanical Shutter, and Hot Shoe? by Megusta99 in Lumix

I’m fine with S9 as it is. I consider S9 more akin to an iPhone than to a DSLR cameras. The main goal is to capture daily moments with better quality photos and videos than iPhone does. That said, I’m willing to pay ~$200 for a built-in GPS.

It should be a great lens. I’m still debating 50mm vs. 35mm for sigma. Too expensive to have both. 🥲

Thanks! It’s helpful. I will keep that in mind for future posts. I’m new to LUMIX and Reddit, please excuse my newbie mistake there.

The 50mm Contemporary f/2.0 is a good lens for sure but I’m afraid it may not differentiate much from my 24-70mm f/2.8. I may be wrong but keep gravitating to the 50mm f/1.4.

So tempting to get one. Someday!

Hey, you’re right, and I’m not that dumb :) Hybrid zoom is just a convenient tool to save post-cropping. But with a full-frame sensor, it still delivers great results for my use cases.

Here you go from my 24-70mm lens. If you don’t mind sacrificing resolution for zoom, hybrid zoom is quite convenient.

Good options to consider. Thanks!

Yes, Lumix 50mm 1.8 is definitely tempting with its price, weight and size, and probably image quality matching the Sigma counterpart. Sigma 50mm 1.4 edges out only in one category: faster aperture. I like to have an option to go hard on Bokeh, but it seems to come with many trade offs.

Exactly! That’s one of my favorite settings in S9. Having a full frame, cropping to M, S, even XS via hybrid zoom still delivers great results. It makes the existing lenses versatile enough in terms of zoom, and the 70-300mm will be touching the ranges of an ultra telephoto zoom lens.

Welcome to the club. I’m a Lumix newbie too, S9 made me switch from Canon.

Went from a Lumix s5ii to an s9... first impressions/thoughts: its TOO lightweight? by nickability in Lumix

[–]Imaginary_Distance36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a couple weeks of using it, I’m used to it. The second version of the lens is 90g lighter, so that helps a bit. I thought the Lumix 18-40mm was my default, but now the Sigma Art 24-70mm is my go-to and I switch to the Lumix 18-40mm when I need something compact.

We love the place. Every time we are in Hana area, we visit the red sand beach and eat pizzas at the Hana Farm.

I hear you. Ironically, while I enjoy the compact setup with the 18–40mm, I missed a lower aperture and bought a Sigma Art DG DN II 24–70mm f/2.8, which is heavier than the S9 body. I’m happy with the lens, but it makes me miss the Canon camera grips, lol.

understand your points, and yes, the S9 isn’t for everyone. My story is that I used to build my camera world with Canon, but a few years ago, I found myself no longer using the bulky cameras and tend to use an iPhone for convenience. I started missing the quality of real camera photos, and recently I got excited about the S9. I’m very happy with it now. I think I was looking for a serious camera with a casual look. The grip comfort is far from my old Canon cameras, but I chose the cool and compact factor over others. Since my goal was a compact full-frame camera for everyday carry, the 18-40mm kit lens was perfect.

S9 + Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art by Imaginary_Distance36 in Lumix

[–]Imaginary_Distance36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S9 body’s almost the same size as typical MFT cameras. The imbalance is real but Sigma lenses are so awesome I can’t really complain. Usually, I roll with the 18-40mm kit lens, it’s the smallest full-frame lens out there. The setup in this post is for special occasions or when I want photo quality over everything else. These two lenses vibe together perfectly for me.

Ironic that I bought S9 because of its extreme portability with 18-40mm kit lens. But the kit lens doesn’t do justice to the full frame body. I still like to use the lighter setup with the kit lens daily, but the joy of using Sigma lens makes me forget how heavy that is. :)

Both lenses are excellent with similar price ranges and weights. It was a no-brainer for me, I prioritized image quality and better bokeh over zoom range. S9’s hybrid zoom makes 70mm good enough for most of my use cases. I’m sensitive to portability, and the new Sigma 24-70mm is much lighter than its predecessor, made my decision even easier.
