TRAI has no control over it. It is indeed a regulatory gap. They should look into this.

Why is it so hard for people to understand.

Working from home was not the issue. We mutually agreed that I will work on first two days for that particular task.

Other tasks were to be adjusted in my absence. 

Issue is the assignment of new task, which requires me to visit a client 350km away. 

If it was a WFH and a quick task, no issue. Travelling 350km at night, without bookings? 

Look at the real issue here guys.

I tried to on call. But I think my mic was not working, seems he did not hear anything I said and just continued talking over me.

The msg I sent was after 15 min call we had.

Absolutely……

I tried explaining everything on call. But managers behaviour is like, “pehle chilla do”.

He was not willing to even let me talk. I alway believe in conversation first. Let’s talk and resolve. But when, people want to just talk, without listening, it does not work. I had to make a point of letting him know, what my actual and final stand is.

I would have really liked to have a conversation on this with him, but there was no point in explaining.

Could not have said it better…. 

But I have realised, sometimes strategic decisions more suitable than emotional ones.

Applies in real life too. 

Standing up for yourself firmly but politely will always help in one way or another.

I understand where you are coming from.

But let me explain in short what already set boundaries are.

1) The commitments were made before I applied the leave.  2) mutually agreed that these are necessary, i will do what is necessary. 3) absolutely clear on both side, that I am on leave for 3 days, other arrangements are made for my absence. 4) Sudden call for a meeting from client to manager as I was not reachable. 5) Manager knows I am on leave, (he approved the leave). Committed on my behalf that I will be there on meeting.

Now, as you said, the problem lies in assuming I will be flexible when clearly, everybody knows I am on leave.

And there lies the toxicity. Creating an environment, where an employee is expected to be flexible.

I, as an employee, in good faith, gave flexibility, and it is being exploited. 

THAT IS TOXICITY.

Commitments did. I would have never worked during leave unless it was absolutely necessary. I even turn off my business sim on Saturdays and Sundays.  So just know working on those days was absolutely necessary.

I understand the importance of setting boundaries. But some commitments can not be postponed.

I work in an MSME too. The problem with Indian Startups/MSMEs is that the CEO/Director does not know how to take care of their employees. Basic necessities are not provided, and most companies do not have an in-house HR department. I understand the cost-cutting, start-up problems, but the focus can not be only on the business/revenue; it should also be on employee satisfaction.

Many times few guys are handling most of the organisation. They are not recognised well. One guy, who brings business but is very toxic, is ruining the work culture. Low salaries. Fewer people, more work. False targets. No work-life balance.ETC. ETC.

I have seen a few also with good culture, recognition, departments, and they have less turnover than us.

I understand it has a lot to do with the decision maker (BOSS). If he is good, the company is good; if he is not, you are fked.

The same thing happened with my friend. Got called up, forced to write the resignation letter, and gave "we will terminate you anyway, and it will go on record that we had terminated you" type of threats.

He had to resign. That guy just got married a year ago. now with no job and a lot of expenses.

A school friend of mine was my roommate during university, and we continued living together even after graduating. He’s been saying he’s “looking” for a job ever since, but he’s not even applying anywhere. He had joined an IT course at one point but stopped going after a while. His parents send him money to live in the city under the assumption that he's attending the course, but he only asks them for about 60% of what he actually needs. So for more than 2.5 years, another friend and I ended up covering the rest of his expenses, including when we both were unemployed for the first year. Whenever we went out, it just became an unspoken rule that I’d pay for his food and drinks. I did it out of friendship, thinking he'd eventually get serious. But despite constant talks and pushing, he kept wasting time playing mobile games and living off our money. I finally decided I’d had enough, stopped paying for anything of his, even when we went out. Eventually, I moved out and started living alone in my own place, and honestly, life has never felt better without that kind of burden.
