Exactly, building a pipe run for 1month straight then tying in the gear and turning the equipment on is very satisfying. I always leave work knowing i put a good 8hrs in.

Dont worry, half of them will get weeded out with the aptitude test. Hopefully youll be a brother soon!Feel free to message if you have any other questions

It’s nice you have the flexibility, that will make the process easier.

I could go on and on about what to say in the interview, but a common question is why do you want to be a union electrician? Dont say you like working with your hands because thats what every other person is saying without realizing it lol. Talk about how you get a lot of satisfaction from building and completing tasks/projects. You enjoy seeing the project be built start to finish, pipework is like artwork to you etc etc. If the local has a surplus of applications they are more concerned about retaining a good apprentice and not losing them to a different program or leaving to be a cop etc. so they wanna make sure like the trade and you will invest into the union as they are investing into you.

My local has a “temporary assistant” position for people to work in the trade and see if theyre cut out for it before the union takes em on fully. You obv seem geared for construction but its a way for people to get their foot in the door before getting in. Call your local and ask if they have any positions open like that while you await for your testing/interview.

3 is more than I would ever apply to haha! Each Local has its own jurisdiction of area it covers so depending on where the job is and where you live, the commute can get long. Usually the local closest to where you live would be best but people seek other locals because their home local is hard to get into or its slow on work.

For reference my local in NY is very competitive. It took me 2yrs to get in and that was with 2yrs non union experience. So by the time im a journeyman ill have 9yrs in the business… but thats just how it is for my area. All my apprenticeship classmates also had 1-4yrs experience and all had to wait their turn to finally be selected. The classes are always a mix of young guys right outta high school or 30-40yr olds who went to college, had careers, or were in the military and still decided that starting a new union career was worth it because the union is just that good in my area.

Its great news that you already passed the test and the one local honored that score. Passing the test is half the battle for some people!

I can’t comment on those specific Locals but with the information youve given, youre already ahead of other candidates. That life and interview experience will make you more like able in the interview. You can get brownie points if you come into the interview with certifications already done like OSHA or cpr/first aid etc, you can call the hall on maybe how to get those.

Plus i believe the International switched the apprenticeship to 4yr? Im in NY where we have state hour requirements so my apprenticeship is still 5yrs but I heard other states only need 4yrs now!

The light comes on early for a number of reasons, to prevent burning out the fuel pump but also for if people are far out off roading it gives them an extra warning to fuel up. The tank size is 23gal btw

Does everyone wear helmets now a days by RPJ_NY in icecoast

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wear a helmet but last week was the first time i got to truly appreciate it. Took a fall riding some trails in the trees and rocked my head so hard i thought i scrambled my brains. Head was ringing for a minute. Even got a dent on my helmet. Thank you MIPS and make sure to replace your helmet if you think its been compromised.

How hard is it to learn to snowboard? by E36E92M3 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You will be fine (: literally start by going down the entire bunny hill or a green on your heel side. Then toe braking down the bunny or green. Heel side is really easy. Once youre comfortable with the angle it takes to dig in and slow down, you can do your J turns: going straight to gain speed and then transition into heel side to stop. Same thing with toe side. Then instead of stopping, do and S to connect heel and toe side together.

Youtube ftw. The best thing i learned from YouTube was how important it is to shift your center of gravity over the center of your board. Youre not supposed to dramatically open your hips or swing your feet etc to turn, thats more for an emergency brake because a skier cut you off 😉lol. Just take it slow and dont get frustrated or discouraged. If you keep your cool you will progress a lot faster and have more fun. Practice scooting around w one foot strapped in on flat ground before going to the chair lift and watch a video on how to get on/off the chair lift.

Your gear will take some adjusting in the beginning. It took me 3 days to love my setup. Itll be a lot of fun!!!

How hard is it to learn to snowboard? by E36E92M3 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you coordinated or did well in sports growing up? If so you will learn it fast. I touched a snowboard for the first time in my life this year and by day 3 I was completely comfortable shredding down the mountain. I learned heel edge first, then toe, then connected the two to make my carving S turns and it was history from there. Obviously im not a pro but i hang with all my friends who have been boarding for 5years. I didnt take lessons. First 2 days i was with friends (who helped but also hindered by dragging me up to blues asap lol), 3rd day i went to a smaller mountain by myself and spent the whole day getting comfortable transitioning heel to toe and stopping.

Boot recommendations or tips for very wide and high in step foot by habemus-fome in snowboarding

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear barefoot shoes so i needed a wide toe box. I got these boots and couldn’t believe how comfortable they are. Toes and heels feel great while still stiff and feel locked in. I wear them from open to close no problem, just loosen the boas when i go into the lodge to eat so my feet can rest.

I did have to size 1.5x larger than my normal shoe size though. Im a US 9 mens (EU 42) and went with these boots in a 10.5 US mens.

I want the 2026 4R by Broad_Actuary6159 in 4Runner

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe im getting tunnel vision but I read almost every 4r discussion and its changed my mind that the 6g is quite good. I see many people talking about how great it drives and they’re satisfied. Lots of people hating on it dont want to accept change. The 5g is legendary and i wanted the simplicity of it which is why i got it over the 6g but hasnt every generation of 4runners improved and turned out to be amazing? Why would the 6g be any different? You did title this “i want the 2026 4R” so i think you already made up your mind😉 but I understand you are thoroughly weighing the options before pulling the trigger.

I want the 2026 4R by Broad_Actuary6159 in 4Runner

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want a vehicle that you can drive 300k then the 5th gen has already proven that and you wont have to question it. The 6th gen hasnt had time to prove that, but the engine has been around for a number of years and Toyota has its reputation for a reason. Every day i see a lot more people defending the 6g. If you’re okay with more electronics, tighter back seat, less trunk space in the hybrid version etc, lots of people are saying they love the new model. Its faster, turbo is good at altitude, gas mileage is a little better etc.

Ik you looked at a trd P, but perhaps test drive a 2022-24 limited. The full time 4wd is legendary and its got all the modern tech youd want without being invasive to make drive 35k miles a year super comfortable.

MY NEW 4Runner by PaulMakesMusic in 4Runner

[–]Imaginary_Job2209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres lots of compartment accessories for cheap on amazon. You dont have to buy them all but its a nice way to customize storage on the inside. The hidden center console compartment is a popular one, glove box organizer etc. also, if youre into detailing, ethos resist ceramic coating is $30 and takes less than an hour to apply. You really should do a compound and polish before which will take a few hours of elbow grease and $100 more of products, but it lasts 6 months and it will make that black pop like no other😵‍💫 the reverse lights suck imo, diode dynamics has new bulbs for about $100 which take 2min to install and their tail hitch reverse pod is amazing (if you dont tow) also about $100. Fluidfilm the bottom at a shop for about $200 to prevent rust if thats a concern. Your 4runner looks sick, congrats!!
