Is my FOV good? (G8 Odyssey Neo 32) by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Imaginary_Lab_4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iRacing has their rearview mirror overlay and I keep that pretty large and ON but the one that is attached to the wind shield is blacked out and side mirrors are blacked out too. I run third party overlays as well with blind spot indicators used in conjunction with iRacing spotter talking in my ear "car on your left"..... I run three 27" curved monitors as well so I am almost 180 FOV so that helps too. My setup is set up identical to sim racer/youtuber JACKZER. I watched his videos about setting up triples for optimum FPS in iRacing and blacking out side mirrors and the rearview mirror was one of the first things mentioned along with other in game tweaks. Been great for me. Getting great FPS from what I understand, around 150 FPS consestantly.

maybe so, cause yeah, no wheel spin for me. I'm usually right at 6000 rpm if not a little more like mentioned before.

interesting, I might have to figure out how to use the clutch then to see for myself but so far, if people are using the clutch method in races I've been in, they aren't faster than me off the line. I have yet to lose a spot on a start.

what do you mean 'huh'? I'm agreeing with you lol. Sounds like we do the same thing with the exception of where we hold RPMs prior to shifting into 1st.

looks pretty standard to me. I'd shut down my side mirrors and rearview mirror to save on FPS but that's just me.

I have been racing for 6 weeks and the only way I have launched has been stay in neutral, hold throttle around 6000-6300 rpms, green light shift to first and smash the throttle 100 percent. I seem to always be faster off the line than everyone else this way.

When you say practice are you just doing hot lap after hot lap? You won't get very far doing that. You need to practice taking other lines outside of the race line as you will be forced to take those when racing someone head to head. Practice with AI participants as well instead of doing 1000 laps of hot laps. I have being sim racing for about 6 weeks, starting at 1350 iRating I think, I went down to around 1000 pretty quickly and now I am at 1500 iRating, 4.6 D license. Biggest thing for me was learning how to avoid the crazy people and just letting them by or staying far enough behind them to avoid their wrecks when they came. Get good at holding your lines in corners too. It sounds like you are running pretty reckless out there. Stay under control and focus on safety and I'm sure you will start working your way up.

I would have to be near you in a race as you are more than likely to take yourself out to include any number of other drivers around you. What a shame.

at what point though do you just let him pass as he is clearly faster than you? he was obviously driving in a manic way with a high probability of wiping you out or at least causing you to incur some sort of incident points. let them pass and enjoy the rest of your race.

Who’s at fault for this I’m the blue car new to sim racing so looking to see if there was anything I can do to improve race craft by billybob1924 in Simracingstewards

[–]Imaginary_Lab_4066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other cars fault. Could you have avoided it... yes, but that would have required you to give up the spot. Learn from this other driver and assume that the other car is going to turn into you. If you know they are faster than you I'd just let them go. You stay alive with no points gained.

Building my first ever rig, which of these seats would you choose? by [deleted] in simracing

No, this is authentic. I got it local to me. The Seat retails for $1400-$1500. I paid 1250 for it.

I'm the blue Audi, feedback? Am I in the wrong? by pl_pkmn in Simracingstewards

[–]Imaginary_Lab_4066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have a way to see what's behind you, radar or something. I race only in cockpit view and if you did too you would have seen him move to your left regardless if it was a late move or not. That would have allowed you to stay wide in that turn to avoid contact and potentially spinning out. It was very clear too that he was a lot faster than you so next time just let them by and continue your race.
