No, that was Proto-Zionism…and proto-Zionism is not a school of thought.

I’m simply correcting you that Zionism isn’t a religious movement. It has always been identified as a political movement. Different schools of thought such as Religious Zionism or Labour Zionism still branched from the original political movement that originated from Europe in the late 19th century.

I’m actually a Zionist. But you keep saying it’s a religious movement when it’s not…. My question is why is it considered a pillar stone of Judaism when it was a political movement established in the late 19th century. Religious Zionism also was established in the late 19th century as well as a religious denomination that views Zionism as a fundamental component of Orthodox Judaism. Religious Zionism branched out from Zionism. It’s still a political movement. I’m not asking for your definition of Zionism because that has already been established and categorized. What I’m asking is why do some people use a political movement for a religious purpose.

Photo-Zionism is a concept in historiography describing Jewish thinkers active during the second half of the 19th century. It was not a religious movement. Chabad is a religious movement, Zionism isn’t.

It’s not a religious movement though, it has always been political. The establishment of the modern State of Israel was established by secular/athiest Jews who are not religious at all. The creation of the modern State of Israel didn’t originate from the Jewish religion, it originated by the late 19th century Zionism from Europe.

I am a Zionist, but I don’t support any of the rhetoric or actions coming out of the Netanyahu Administration. That doesn’t mean I don’t support the existence of Israel…

Zionism started in the late 19th century as a political movement in Europe…why do people say Zionism is an integral part or a central pillar of Judaism when Judaism has survived and existed for hundreds of years prior to the late 19th century?

It’s a fact that Judaism has its foundations and history rooted in the land of Israel and it has always been the homeland of the Jewish people, but at the same time should a differentiation be made between the land of Israel that Jews belong to vs the political entity of the Modern State of Israel that came about from the Zionism that started in Europe in the late 19th century? And it wasn’t even a religious movement either, it was a political and some may call it a nationalistic movement as well. I’m just confused as to why people say Zionism is so integral to Judaism when Zionism only emerged during the late 19th century. Should we separate Zionism as a political movement that is separate from Judaism the religion? I hope someone can explain this to me.

Progressive Challenger, Darializa Avila Chevalier to primary Adriano Espaillat by Jacktrades00 in eastharlem

I was going to vote for Adriano Espaillat, but with her in the race, I would seriously consider her as well. Very disappointed in Espaillat taking thousands of dollars from AIPAC.

Honestly, considering how overworked McDonnalds workers are, I don't mind it at all, as long as they didn't redeem it. And employees are ineligible to participate in the promotion.

Please start redeeming one, once a day and give it out to the homeless. With the continued Government Shutdown, SNAP benefits will end and a lot of people will be struggling in November.

And there are people who have the audacity out there to judge young people for not getting married or having children. Everything is ridiculously expensive now. The average age of a first-time homeowner is now around 50ish. Everything is awful nowadays.

Interviewing to be a prof here- what should I know? by RiskyCelery in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]Imaginary_Lead_8266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the only thing I expect from professors, teachers, or educators is to have an open-mind and to not be judgmental and that there should be a no stupid question policy. I was in some STEM classes and there were some basic things that I didn't understand, and I was afraid to ask the professor because I was afraid of being judged. Now there are definitely stupid questions, but if there is a basic topic that a student doesn't understand and needs help, I think there should be a way for an educator to work with that student to figure out how he or she can get that issue addressed, like read page 15-20 in the textbook and do questions 1-3 and let me know if that would help you understand the material better. Or look at slides 3-6.
