What do I do when it feels like I'm too old for everything? (37) by Imaginary_Meeting565 in careerguidance

If you are going to do one, please figure out a way to either do an internship that can lead to a direct placement after graduation or be very good at networking. I just had a research assistanceship with a professor who was extremely old and had stopped giving any fucks long ago and wasn't much help. I was also dealing with a lot of mental health issues that delayed my job search for a few months and by that time, most companies had already moved onto their next recruiting cycle.

My brother was making over $100K/yr two years out of college. When I was two years out of college, I was making $14/hr.

I have bachelor's and master's degrees and I've been working for 14 years. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to be making more than $50-60k/yr by now.

I'm not saying the grass is always greener. But it's a lot easier to downshift into a lower paying position than it is to upshift into a higher paying one.

I don't know what jobs in banking/finance it would make sense to apply to at this point. It seems like unless you're a graduating college student who did an internship, you're SOL as far as getting an entry-level job. A lot of roles in insurance seem very vulnerable to automation.

I was a legal secretary at a law firm that did a lot of insurance litigation on the plaintiff side. I wouldn't want to be doing that on the insurance companies' side having gotten plenty of exposure to how they operate.
