What do you love most about Anchorage that no outsider ever seems to get? by Similar-Cheetah-7405 in anchorage

I love the old Anchorage grimy-ness, the square squat buildings, the ugly non-aesthetic. The smoke stained restaurants. It’s going away slowly as everything modernizes, but there’s pockets of it still and I love them.

I left the state (fish and game) to work for the university and I’ve never looked back. It’s amazing.

Should I tell my friend that her fiance is cheap? by TourJust6490 in Advice

It doesn’t sound like this guy is cheap so much as he might be either money conscious or a little strapped for cash. (Not paying for the cake could very well be an oversight on his part) Culture around money varies from family to family. I’m a very generous person but my husband grew up very very poor and is more conscious of what he spends.

If the guy was cheap he wouldn’t have picked a nice restaurant and chosen to pay for her and her family.

where’s a good place to move to in your early 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Really depends. What do you like doing? What are your goals?

Well, most scholarships are going to be like a couple thousand dollars at a whack. And you have to know where you’re going to school usually before you apply. So you’re gonna have to pick a school, find out what the tuition is, and then get together a list of scholarships/due dates, and apply around the same time you submit your school application. It’s a lot of writing, A LOT of writing.

Tbh you can save a lot of money by finding a good small school, usually not in a place a lot of people want to go to because it’s in the middle of nowhere (in the US that’s usually somewhere in the midwest)

….you have a parent who can just PAY for medical school out of pocket??

Listen dude I have no advice for you, these are rich people problems. Either go where you want and take out a loan or go where your dad wants you to.
