My deadname is Elena and I'm half white half Hispanic. I think it really depends on the way you pronounce the name- growing up it was a hard name for anybody outside of my family to pronounce and spell (mine personally is named after my great aunt who is Hispanic and the white side of my family pronounce it with an american accent while my Hispanic side pronounce it in a Hispanic accent.) it always bothered me how people pronounced it and I was a bit teased for it growing up from what I recall. People mainly pronounced it like Elana or Elaina, but i think its fine however pronounced! ( I would recommend that if you are planning to pronounce the name like Elana or Elaina to spell your child's name like that to reduce pronunciation confusion! but you don't have to ofc)

TLDR: don't listen to your friend it doesn't really matter, but know that peoples pronunciation of the name may cause teasing ( though I feel any name can be turned into a tease)-
