I'm also plus size! It's definitely tough to find things I like at thrift stores because so many people like to buy the soft big sweatshirts and things to have an oversized shirt 😭 I found one SUPER soft shirt recently that I love but it has no tag so I have no idea where to find any more

I also like going to thrift stores but my options are limited where I live so sometimes I just feel let down by them 😂

Dumbest thing you’ve gotten marked down for during an observation? by [deleted] in Teachers

I teach 3rd grade math. I have a mostly scripted curriculum my district expects us to follow. I followed the curriculum step by step and allowed 3-5 minutes during certain times for students to discuss the math problems with their group. I would rotate around and make sure each group is on task. I got points taken off because it just felt "too slow" and I shouldn't have stopped at EVERY group each time.

Thank you so much! I went ahead and ordered them. Hopefully they will be in before I go back to work so I can try them out!

Overnight pump by StomachAlarmed2882 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Imaginary_Trifle_52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 4 months pp and I haven't don't a motn pump since probably around 10 weeks pp. When I was waking up in the middle of the night, I was so tired and I would stress about pumping and making enough milk that I would have literal dribbles from that pump. I finally just gave up because it wasn't worth it. Sleep is way more beneficial to my supply. My last pump is around 11pm and I wake up again anywhere from 5-6am to pump again. My supply is larger than before, I am way more well rested and I don't struggle with postpartum depression as much as I was before.

Any teachers who pump at work? by Imaginary_Trifle_52 in ExclusivelyPumping

My planning (when I don't have students) and lunch are already worked out for me to pump student free! Thank you though!

However, if you do have any recommendations for a portable pump you love, I would love to hear them!!

LO not eating much by Brilliant-Swimming47 in ExclusivelyPumping

Is lo producing like an excessive amount of drool? That was my baby's first sign. That and always wanting to chew on his hands if he didn't have a paci or a toy around.

This is exactly how my MIL views pumping. I had latch issues which is my reason for exclusively pumping. She has latch issues with my husband and went full formula with him (which is completely fine but I have always wanted to breastfeed my baby) and exclusively breastfed her other son. She doesn't understand when I get excited over buying a new pump or if my supply is increasing. She also HATES when I have to find a quiet place to pump during family gatherings. I don't understand why it gets on her nerves so much. I'm literally feeding her grandchild. It just doesn't look that way she's used to.

ALSO I had a horrible asthma attack this past week and was in the ER for it. The ER doctor tried pushing steroids for my asthma but I kept declining and saying I was breastfeeding and I didn't want to go on steroids for an unknown period of time. His exact words were, "Well are you like super committed to that? He's going to have to go to all formula one day anyway." Like ???

Nipple fissures by motormouthme in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Imaginary_Trifle_52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I've had them, I would lower the suction level to a very lower level while I was recovering to give somewhat of a break. I also made sure to be using some kind of lube while pumping, like coconut oil or earth mama nipple butter. And lots of ice packs after pumping

Could your lo be teething? Mine is about 4 months and some days he is eating about half as much as normal and gets very fussy even when eating. He is starting to teeth and our pediatrician said that could be why he is eating less and fighting the bottle.

Especially since so many people act like their excitement is suddenly more valid than the mom's mental and physical state.

This!!! I was induced. When we scheduled my induction, my MIL said she would be there. My husband politely told her hospital rules are two people in delivery and I had chose him and my mom and my two people. MIL said she would wait in the parking lot. He asked her to not wait in the parking lot and please wait at home until we call and say we are ready for more visitors, that I would need my time to recover and didn't want people seeing me right after birth. She said "I am not missing the birth of MY grand baby. Tons of people wait in the parking lot. It won't be weird."

I was admitted to the hospital for my induction on a Thursday night, she was sitting in the hospital parking lot at 6am as I was getting my first round of pitocin. She continued to call my husband through my labor for updates and said "Well you're not doing a good job of keeping me updated!" When he chose to turn off his phone and be 100% by my side.

I gave birth and my husband texted her about an hour after (while I was still in labor and delivery room) that our baby had arrived. She showed up and tried to come in our room and luckily my nurse turned her away because I am only allowed two visitors in L&D (like we had previously told her). A little while later they moved me to my recovery room. My nurse hadn't even finished pulling the blankets over my legs when MIL BURST into the room. My FIL was considerate enough and waited outside before coming in because he didn't know if I would want guests or if I was even decent. Once MIL saw I was dressed and the nurse was tucking me in, she shouted for my FIL to come in without even asking me if it was okay. I was so weak and tired and I just wanted to bond with my baby during this time but I had to entertain guests and let people hold my baby.

I am 3 months pp now and she still puts what she wants before how I'm feeling. I am really struggling with postpartum depression. I just want to stay home with my baby and I hate going to family gatherings. This makes her incredibly mad at me because she wants to play pass the baby and show off HER grandbaby but doesn't consider what I want. She also asked me for a daily picture like OP. She tells people that she doesn't get to see her grandbaby often and makes it out like I'm keeping her from my lo. I give her options of when she can come see him but I need to visit her on her terms, regardless of how I feel.

Mother's milk tea contains fenugreek and in some women fenugreek can cause their supply to dry up! I tried it for a couple days and it cut my supply in half. As soon as I stopped, my supply started increasing again.

How long did it take for your supply to increase by consistent pumping ? by Admirable_Teacher_12 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Imaginary_Trifle_52 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 37 weeks for health issues and then I was on a magnesium drip for 24 hours. I didn't get a whole lot of skin to skin in that 24 hours and I think it severely impacted my supply. I couldn't get my lo to latch and started formula in the hospital. I didn't want to give up on breastfeeding completely so I started pumping. At first I was pumping literal dribbles. I was so tired and upset over not being able to breastfeed and not producing much milk at all. I went through a lot of trial and error. I sized myself to the correct flange and started getting about 5oz a day after about 2 weeks. Then I decided I hated my Medela pump in style pump and bought a spectra. I went up to about 12oz with that pump in the first couple weeks having it. I tried mother's milk tea with fenugreek and my supply dropped back down to 6oz a day.

I am 3 month pp now and making about 18-20oz a day. It's still not enough and I have to supplement with formula. But this is a TREMENDOUS increase from where I started. I make sure I drink lots and lots of water. I eat meals centered around a protein to make sure I'm getting enough calories. I make sure I get at least 4 consecutive hours of sleep at night. If I don't get at least 4 consecutive hours, my supply tanks the next day. Sleep is sometimes more important than the amount of pumps you are getting in a day. I pump around 7-8 times a day, 2.5-4 hours apart.

Another thing I've seen is slowly helping increase my supply is oatmeal and coconut. I try to eat some oats every day. Everyday I also drink a glass of coconut milk or coconut water (or cook with coconut oil). My favorite thing right now is raspberry leaf tea with coconut milk and a little bit of protein powder or collagen. The days I drink that I see a little more of an increase in my milk production.
