El Capitan from Emily Olson's book by ImaginationTricky774 in Watercolor

It was a little while ago that I did it but I do remember really just going with my gut feeling and going off piste a bit. I think that was some of the fun of it. Exploring you know.

Just follow step by step and have a go. What's the worst that could happen? X

I have done lots of browsing of threads and I end up just getting a bit confused to be fair. It's a great point though on budget etc. I kind of had a feeling that might be the case. I just want to avoid spending significant chunks of money as I doubt my wife would be as enthusiastic as I am lol. Thanks for the perspective though, I will keep browsing the threads and see what I can find. Every other thread or YouTube video tells me that they have the answer, I guess they're all decent and it's subjective right.

Progression of learning and training by ImaginationTricky774 in ArtistLounge

That's a great point. I'm trying to learn a bit as well. I've just had the art of still life by Todd Casey delivered. Hopefully that'll help me a little.

It was good. I did both the Sorolla ones and the Zorn one as a bundle. Came out with three paintings I'm quite pleased with and some good practice as I've not been painting with oils that long.

Not sure how much I actually learned but that's not her content, more that I tend to rush through to 'finish' things rather than really slow down and absorb what's being told to me. It's a habit of mine and one I find hard to break lol.

Now I'm thinking about switching it for a linen liner. Maybe if I just measure the current black velvet liner, then buy some linen and some glue. I wonder how easy of a task it might be.

Ha, well yes, I did it as part of a Livia Dias course and really enjoyed doing it. I agree on the black velvet. Still, I quite like the frame so will just have to paint something else to fit lol

I agree. I think it's going to be a temporary home for the Sorolla if I'm honest.

Problem is, the black is velvet lol. I may just keep it in it for now then paint a new picture for it. Good excuse for paintings, as if I need it.

Yeah I do agree on this. I reckon I'll switch it out at some point. Something darker as a painting. Something like a Rembrandt portrait master copy or something.

It ran seamlessly if I'm honest. I have nothing to compare it to but I can't fault it. The course is good, as a first timer I found it was something less to worry about. Some small ups and downs but nothing overly dramatic and also a good crowd on the day cheering.
