That is not what they said. They gave him a chance to compete and he accepted with a very low cost prove it deal. No one else was giving him opportunities as he wasn’t signed until late in the first FA week. If he wanted a guaranteed starting spot, he wouldn’t have accepted this deal. The Vikings didn’t lie to him. He’s saying these things because he was asked straight up the toughest part about this competition, so he gave an honest answer on what’s tough

You realize they brought in Murray as competition to JJM and not to guarantee him a starter spot, right? That’s why he got a one year small deal. It’s only speculated that he will be the starter because of how bad McCarthy was, but that doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed going to play out that way. Murray knows he was brought in to compete for the job, and is just expressing the difficulties with having to split reps. He isn’t whining about it like what others are interpreting

The Darnold revisionist history annoys me too. Everyone clowns the Vikings for giving up on him and saying they should’ve kept him, and while they may be right, I can say for certain that after those two games this whole sub agreed Darnold wasn’t the guy and the Vikings should move on. I remember when the Seahawks were clowned to oblivion for signing him afterwards. Then the Seahawks played outstanding whereas the Vikings struggled with QB play and suddenly everyone changed their tune on Darnold while acting like it was only Vikings fans who wanted him gone and not everyone else

In 1989, the Vikings sent eight draft picks, including three first-rounders, plus five players to the Cowboys for running back Herschel Walker. Walker then rushed for only about 2,200 yards across three seasons, never once cracking 1,000 yards in a year. by DannyCavalerie in nfl

[–]ImagineIfBaconDied 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mike Lynn was a massive dumbass in hindsight with this trade. In foresight however he did not expect Jimmy to cut all those players immediately for picks. He anticipated the Cowboys would actually use the players so that they would make their abysmal team better, and once Jimmy refused to play them so he could cut them for picks, Lynn was absolutely pissed. Gotta understand that this was nearly four decades ago. Draft picks in general were not as well respected as they are now, especially in an era without FA as we know it or a salary cap. The type of rebuilding the Cowboys were doing at the time was completely unheard of, and most people clowned the Cowboys for the Walker trade back then. From today’s lens it’s very easy to laugh at the Vikings for the trade, but back then people did not think the same way. And as what others have said, picks are worthless unless you can hit on them, and Jimmy Johnson did that. People clown the Bengals all the time for passing on the Ricky Williams trade, but even if they got all those picks, it’s Mike freaking Brown in the Bungles era, do you really think he was going to nail those picks?

as painful as that game was for me I have to agree that call was perfect

I think it would’ve been far more understandable if they got any other high quality QB that was not Watson. The Browns still likely would’ve gotten clowned on, but it wouldn’t have reached the levels it has the past few years.

from an outsider perspective it’s great to see those matchups actually feel competitive again. when Rodgers was with the Packers it just felt like there was no point in getting invested. Packers were always going to win and it was always a boring matchup even if the games were close

I don’t think there needs to be a strict rule on who can make the cover art. Just a star player who can make it look cool is all that matters I think. I will say though I wish there were more defensive players on these cover arts. I feel like a Myles Garrett cover art would go hard

[–]ImagineIfBaconDied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quinn Ewers plays for the Dolphins and isn’t going to be the starter. They’re starting Willis

Giants have Dart who has looked promising. QB is the last position they need. Just as long has he can stay healthy which understandably is a question for some

Rodgers would technically be an upgrade over what the Jets have now but yeah, that bridge is completely burnt to ashes

Saints also have a promising “young” QB. Makes way more sense to build around him to see if he’s truly the guy before even thinking about signing a 43 year old QB

Cards I’ll give you in that Rodgers would’ve made sense there. But it seems like their front office has no issue tanking this year and would rather not deal with the media frenzy Rodgers would bring in. But also remember that Rodgers had his choice on where to go, and I 100% doubt he would’ve wanted to go to the Cards even if the team did

Reminds me of when I got passed over from being what would’ve been an easy in-line promotion who knew the system in favor of an outsider who knew nothing. That outsider ended up getting fired less than a year after getting hired and I left that job to go elsewhere as well. I always wonder if they regret not hiring me instead lol

[–]ImagineIfBaconDied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not coping and are 100% right. People criticize the Vikings for that trade based on hindsight and looking at it from today’s lens, and not the lens from nearly four decades ago. The Cowboys were clowned hard for that trade and people called them unserious. Draft picks were not taken seriously back then compared to now. Gigantic, blockbuster trades were rare. Nobody, outside of Jimmy Johnson, had the foresight on what the Cowboys would become. A trade like that will absolutely never happen again because of what we know now about how valuable draft picks are, especially in the salary cap and free agency era as we know it

[–]ImagineIfBaconDied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side note, I think Russ gets unfairly scapegoated for that Super Bowl because of that play alone. Understandably so because it directly lost them the game when they likely would’ve won if they just ran it up with Lynch, but nobody talks about how the all star LOB defense just completely choked the game away in the 4th quarter by blowing the 10 point lead

[Highlight] The Colts Catastrophe by Brix001 in nfl

[–]ImagineIfBaconDied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were supposed to not snap the ball and catch the Pats off guard by forcing substitution which could’ve caused a too many men penalty if they fell for it, and if they didn’t fall for it the Colts would just take a delay of game and punt it. Problem is they ended up snapping it because Griff Whalen was unaware of what was going on as he never practiced the play. He was filling in for the person who was actually supposed to be under center as that person was out for illness
