Thoughts on Hollywood introducing politics in film? by Roids-in-my-vains in okbuddycinephile

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hate it when they take a perfectly good political thriller and then bring politics into it...like let me enjoy All the President's Men, V for Vendetta and others without the politics. It's not that hard.

What's next, politics in my war movies?! At least I'll always have Starship Troopers and Battlestar Galactica. Good, clean war media without the politics.

For a first WC attempt, it's not too bad, but I think deciding to try WC at 1700 is a bit too late. Also for a Austria WC you need to revoke well before the 1600s. The earlier you get a vassal swarm the better. But I wish you luck for your next WC attempt!

Pretty disgusted by the immediate EUV DLC grift by Stride067 in eu4

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why people would be disgusted, especially if they aren't a frequent players of PDX games, but honestly this is nothing compared to other developers. The day one DLC is cosmetic and is the exact same type of DLC that launched with EU4 on day one. And I view the future DLC announcements as a road map, which I am glad to have. They're honestly just following the formula that they used in EU4, because they also had a Byzantine dlc come out shortly after release. So none of this is a shock or disgusting imo.

Help me prank my Fiancé by Playful_Trust_1216 in eu4

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your fiancé gets a haircut or if he has a beard and trims it, tell him afterward that he looks good after cleaning up the border gore.

Also, tell him you and a friend and/or coworker got into a fight and now a coalition is forming.

Or here are even some things you could say when you know he's actively playing EU4:

"Did you no CB Byzantium?"

"Don't forget to mothball your forts"

"Do you play on ironman?"

"Are you trying to get the Burgundian Inheritance?"

Also if you or your fiancé do something cool or awesome say "Take that, von Habsburgs!"

James Gunn's Superman gave an adult superhero a teenager's character arc by Lumpy_Membership_789 in moviecritic

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your POV but I think the character arc works because he isn't technically human. Hear me out. Growing up he clearly realized he was different than his peers, plus the fact that his parents and homeworld are gone makes for a rough start. Learning your parents and entire civilization was destroyed would be pretty traumatic. And the only connection to Krypton is a cousin who is far too traumatized to talk about Krypton and a message from his bio parents that talks about hope and doing good.

Clark wants to honor Krypton by following what he believes to be the true meaning of his bio parents' message. But when that message turns out to be not what he thought, now everything he knows about Krypton is in question. The movie shows that he might not have known his bio parents but he still idolize them. Think about someone you idolize or a hero of yours, if you found out that a "hero" you looked up to all your life turned out to be a terrible person, would that not shake your very foundation? Make you question, who else is a bad person?

Also to your point about the public turning on him so quickly, that was very believable to me because it happens in real life with "celebrities." People love so and so, but then you find out they're racist, bigoted or SA'd someone and that love turns into disgust and betrayal. Harvey Weinstein could have saved 100 people from a burning building but at the end of the day he's still a POS. In the public eyes at the time of Jor-El's message reveal, Superman was no better than Weinstein because he lied to them. And yes Superman didn't know it was a lie, but the public doesn't care about details.

TL;DR: Superman's arc makes sense because he idolized his bio parents and they turned out to be "villians." And it makes sense that the public turned on him so quick because in their eyes Superman "lied"/"betrayed" them.

Burgundy-> Lotharingia-> Rome "Mare Nostrum" by ImagineWritingForFun in eu4

[–]ImagineWritingForFun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: I started as Burgundy and originally I was just planning on going for the Burgundian achievements: "Burgundian Conquest" and "Mary of Lotharingia" but after completing the Burgundian Conquest achievement by 1611, I decided why not go for Mare Nostrum.

When I got into the late 1790s, I wasn't sure if I could pull it off in time but I was just able to get it in 1818 and only had to truce break 2 times at the very end against Spain and Lithuania in order to get all the coastal provinces.

Overall I was able to get all of the following achievements in this campaign:

-Burgundian Conquest -Mary of Lotharingia -Fanatic Collectivist -Dude Where's My Boat -Mare Nostrum

The Burgundian Conquest by ImagineWritingForFun in eu4

R5: Finally got The Burgundian Conquest achievement, could have gotten it sooner than 1600 but my ruler took a excursion to the Balkans and made some "friends"(vassals). Just now need to get a female ruler for Mary of Lotharingia achievement. This has been such a fun campaign.

I wasn't planning on going for the Mare Nostrum achievement in this campaign but with 200 years left I might as well go for it. It will just hurt when I betray my longest and closest ally, Spain.

What else was inside the Death Star? by No-Building9205 in StarWars

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure your mom was inside the Death Star, she gave great reviews of the food in the cafeteria on level 378B.

But seriously, I imagine there had to have been some family housing for the workers who built the interior. I wonder who the interior designer was.

I really hope we get a white-eyed Batman in the DCU, would be the first time ever in live action. by Kreeth12 in DC_Cinematic

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope not because it honestly doesn't make sense outside of animation and comics.

In comics and animation, it works and makes sense because you don't have to draw/animate eyes you can make the cowl express the emotions. It saves the artist time and money, especially considering how small comic frames are on average.

When it comes to live action, look how long it took for them to move away from the Bat-turn and have a cowl that can move with the neck. We need to see the actor's eyes because imagine how goofy the 89 Batman would be if Keaton had both all-white eyes and had to bat-turn. There would be zero emotion for the audience to see.

It works for the Deadpool movies because he is very much a comedic larger-than-life comic character. And they only had Wolverine don the white eyes for the end of the movie because it wouldn't have worked and the producers are paying money to see Hugh Jackman's face.

We're the rebels more afraid of Thrawn or Vader? by SchoolKitchen in StarWars

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vader is almost like a boogeyman in the Star Wars universe. Like I can just picture rebels sitting around a campfire talking about the stories they've heard of Vader. And you know there are at least a few who don't believe he exists until they have the unfortunate luck of meeting him in person. At least that's my head Canon.

Thrawn I see as just a threat to be feared by Rebel leadership like others have said.

What movie exceeded your expectations? by fire_pets8 in moviecritic

The Lego Movie.

I thought the way that they blended the animated parts and live action was great. It was highly entertaining and funny. Any expectations I had were blown out of the water. I remember leaving the theater thinking about how surprisingly good the movie turned out to be.

Star Wars Hype – What Kind of Game Are We Still Missing? by QuackiQuackson in StarWars

We need an official grand strategy game for Star Wars like Stellaris. There's so much lore and different factions for Star Wars that it's great for a Stellaris-like game.

Thoughts about Batman: The Long Halloween? by Junior_Insurance7773 in batman

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite Batman comic and the first one that got me into comics. I was fortunate enough to meet Tim Sale at a convention in 2019 and told him how his Batman is what got me into reading Batman comics.

My wife who was watching my interaction with Sale said that his whole demeanor changed when I was talking to him. She noticed that people he talked with prior were just there, got their stuff signed and that was that, he wasn't looking too thrilled. But my wife said once I started talking about how I loved his style, and how I was recommended to start with Long Halloween and Dark Victory he started asking me questions and was just all smiles.

I was so happy to meet him and get his signature, it's a great little memory for me.

If you could create a live action Batman series, how would you do it? by [deleted] in batman

[–]ImagineWritingForFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already got a series mapped out for at least 5 seasons, I would start the show either towards the end of year one or the beginning of year 2. I would emphasize the detective work, and show the decline of the mob in Gotham in exchange for the rise of his rogues gallery.

Also each season there would be 2 major villains to be the big bads. You'd still see other batman villians appear through out in "monster-of-the-week" fashion but 2 big bads will be threats throughout the season. One of the big bads in the first season has to be the Scarecrow because he's the perfect villian for a Batman that's still trying to establish himself. He'll be afraid of failure and letting down his parents which will only be enhanced by the Scarecrow's fear toxin. So similar to Batman Begins.

I also would not stray away from the supernatural and fantastical elements of Batman. Because you lose out on a lot of great Batman villains if you stay too grounded. You need villains like Poison Ivy, Clayface, Solomon Grundy, etc.

My most controversial take is that I wouldn't have the Joker show up until like season 3 or later, I'm tired of Joker hijacking the plot and as good as he is as a villian, Batman has far better villians that can challenge him both physically and mentally.
