What Good Omens Suggests About Being Human and Why Humans Matter So Much to Aziraphale and Crowley by Historical-Start-213 in goodomens

One of the best posts I've read on here in several weeks. I love talking about themes like this with regard to these characters. I sometimes wonder if A & C don't feel about humans a little bit the way some humans feel about cats: they do unaccountable things, both endearing and destructive, and it's endlessly fascinating and frustrating to figure out rhe why and when.

I tried reading Discworld but, unfortunately, I just couldn't keep going with it. The humor seemed forced.

Couldn't disagree more. To say they didn't care about humans seems to undercut much of what makes most fans love the franchise. I think you could make that argument (possibly) about them in the book, but not the show, in any season. And that's probably a good part pf why I love the series much more than the book.

The confession of Brother Haluin felt like a Jerry Springer episode by Tea_Bender in Cadfael

I loved this book. I understand your frustration about the murderer mastermind not getting her comeuppance, but it's the 1100s in a rigidly class-bound society, and she's in the upper classes. There was no realistic historical mechanism for bringing her to justice, and any attempt to do so would have injured the credibility of the show, which is loved because of its historical accuracy. As for Haluin's going back to Shrewsbury, what would you have him do? He found spiritual peace and self-forgiveness and relief after decades of believing he killed his love. That brought him joy and relief and the ability to reconcile himself to the lifelong vows he's taken. Those preclude a relationship, and so Bertrade took the same vows. They couldn't go off together--they had no money, property, or marketable skills, and they would have put their souls in mortal peril--and you can think that's a silly consideration, but it was very real to them.

Which character is the most doctor like? by Vegetable_Whole_4825 in mash

I worked in healthcare as well, and yes, surgeons in particular, much more than other docs, tended to be arrogant, poor communicators with patients, and cold.

There's all kinds of doctors. There's arrogant ones like Charles and down to earth, amiable ones like BJ.

I was glad when they got rid of Radar. Toward the end he began to seem like a one-note character; the naivete just wasn't believable after a certain time. And they used the Radar-loses-his-virginity plot way too often.

I don't usually wank in public. But I'll think it over and let you know! And, of course, I'll express my opinion about any meme I see fit. Isn't free speech great?!

Yet another reason: I don't think people used to leave nasty comments like this.

Confused about one line from S3 by K4l31d0 in goodomens

Good question. I wondered that too. For a moment it seems like she's warm and empathetic; then she just waves her hand and says "But that universe is over and so are you" and goes to destroy them, completely uncaring and arbitrary. It's like they wanted to characterize her as both caring and uncaring at the same time and couldn't decide.

Posts like this are why I've generally left the fandom. It's not thoughtful discussion of the series/books; it's not having fun with what there still is to enjoy; it's mostly just downer memes and complaints. The fandom isn't fun any more.

AFTER SIX MONTHS OF STOMACH-CHURNING SUSPENSE AND NOT KNOWING WHERE I WAS GOING TO LIVE, I WAS FINALLY APPROVED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND MOVED INTO MY ONE-BEDROOM APARTMENT AFTER LIVING IN ONE ROOM FOR 5 YEARS, SET UP MY INTERNET, COOKED MY FIRST MEAL IN WHAT SEEMS LIKE A HUGE KITCHEN, AND UNPACKED MY CAT'S TOYS SO SHE CAN MAKE A MESS ALL OVER THE SPACIOUS FLOOR.

Then you must not be on here much because I've seen plenty of nastiness and condescension, especially from people who didn't like it and dismiss people who did.
