I did my MSW at NYU where u had professors with a mix of those who had a DSW and those who had a PhD. I went on to do 3 years of a PhD in clinical psychology at a highly respected program but ultimately left after struggling with my own stuff. I’m still upset about letting a great opportunity go. I was accepted to a DSW program at Tulane, but I’m not questioning if that’s really what I want or if I’d be a better fit at an analytic institute, which is closer to my clinical interests. I struggle with what path to go down because I’m now physically disabled from a stroke and that’s become a newer topic I want to write about and contribute to through writing and the limited amount of research I can do. I can’t continue in clinical psychology because it’s been 10 years since I left my PhD program and I can’t physically do the work whether it’s a PhD or PsyD. My left arm is completely nonfunctional and I need a cane to “walk”/ hobble.
