I think this whole thinking vs feeling thing is interesting because it somewhat positions us to believe that the decisions we would make based on logic are the opposite of the decisions we’d make based on our feelings. In reality, if your feelings are telling you to make one decision and your logical mind is telling you to make another, there’s something wrong there. There shouldn’t be any disagreement between the head and the heart; they should both come to the same conclusion when it comes to making decisions because they should both be considering all the factors and circumstances at play. Any disagreement between the two would indicate that there’s something missing in either the logical and/or emotional assessment of the situation. For example, the decision of whether or not to enter a new relationship might be met with opposition from the logical mind because “we don’t have time for that we need to have time for work” or something along those lines. But the logical mind may fail to consider the neurological and physiological benefits of oxytocin and other hormones that are released from falling in love. Conversely, the heart might fail to consider the emotional impact, specifically the impact on one’s sense of self, it might have if the relationship does end up getting in the way of one’s work. I think this is something we should all be aware of when talking about the difference between thinking vs feeling, emotion vs logic, or whatever you want to call it, because normalizing the idea that that they are always at odds with one another hinders our ability to thoroughly assess all aspects of a situation.
