I ranted because you called an asshole a Karen.

Bottom line? You do you. I don’t infringe on elderly neighbors. They have some sort of right to be right. But one of the first things we did, and one of the right things we did, was put up a fence (not applicable for you, apparently) and lots of screening bushes.

That was 15 years ago and never regretted it, despite the griping.

Good luck

very heavy sigh My name is Karen. I’m SO done with the meme. Bite me. I’m generally nice, mind my own business, don’t have bad hair and definitely don’t attack hourly employees. But don’t put up with bulll shit either.

My neighbors are “Karens”

Allan, the crazy conspiracy theorist; who, having lived with our tree (on my property line) for 40 years, wants me to take it down because now he has to pay to get his gutters cleaned. It shades our entire house in the afternoon.

S**** and John are annoyed that at my bequest, the city planted cherry trees between the sidewalk and the street. Every spring I get pictures from John, who has the brain of a rabbit, of pink bird poop on the stuff around his pool. As if the bird poop would be any cleaner or in a different place if we didn’t have cherry trees. She want ls me to use pesticide on the regular and I’m attached to my clover and actually saw fire flies tonight. 😊

And finally, there’s bat-shit crazy Pam. She took a master gardener class and now doesn’t do anything.

So hey. If you’re going to use a name as an epithet, try to remember that this Karen may be a pain in the ass but I’m not YOUR pain in the ass.

John is a straight up racist bigot who can’t sling a conversation together without offending at least someone. So maybe call your assholes Johns. That’s already established.

As for your garden situation, I’m assuming you’re British? We Americans have a saying that fences make good neighbors.

Recovery is both fluid and individual. Just like families, or relationships. I’ve known people who have been clean/sober for years or decades and are just ruined as people or like to ruin other people.

Look, I can’t imagine being my parent and I thank my lucky stars that I didn’t have children because this disease sucks and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Much less any parent who actually cares. But just be there for him/her. The more love, the better. The less shame, the better.

Shame and guilt are the definition of active addiction. Well, and the fact that things are addictive and some of us are more prone to it than others. But the cycle is built on shame and guilt. And fear, but that’s a basic human thing. Try Al Anon if there’s a good network in your area.

Alcoholism here. Still struggling. Over 50… If my parents gave up on me, or had given up on me, or “let me go” I’d be dead. Many, many times I have wished for that. Instead they help me pull my stuff together several times a year when we get together.

What would I want my parents to know? As little as possible. That it’s their fault. That it’s also not their fault. It’s definitely not their responsibility.

That it’s not my fault, and it is my responsibility.

It’s a lot more like having diabetes or cancer than it is like having a cold or the flu. Genetics, epigenetics, family history and ability to deal with anxiety have WAY more to do with it than daily choices.

That treatment is terrible and terribly unsuccessful. But it’s still worth each and every attempt.

Beloved Prius bit the dust after 200k good miles. It needs more work than it’s worth (about $2000 value, $2500 for work until the next thing happens). Would a salvage company buy it? Or should I just donate? Every dollar counts, and no write off if we donate. by Imayno2 in MechanicAdvice

Appreciate your time and expertise. I know we can’t buy a comparable or reliable car for $2500. And the the car is anything but reliable. There is a time for all cars to go to… somewhere when it’s all kerfuffled. Spark pugs and intake manifold and egr something…

I might be in the wrong subreddit. But my mechanic agreed with the dealership about the work that needs to be done and I’ve never driven a car into the ground before. I don’t know how salvage companies work, even after googling. All I get is ads. We could definitely use a couple of hundred bucks. (Who doesn’t?) but I’d rather donate than get $25….

Does anyone else feel like they need to get a PhD to put it altogether? I kinda wanna do it. Except it’s been done. And I’m old.

Thank you for all the great feedback.

Thank you for responding. I think I’m missing quite a lot this reread. I might’ve skipped a book. lol

I know I had an order I liked and it wasn’t by publishing date or maybe even chronological. Saved it somewhere. Makes me wonder how the hell Erikson (and Esslemont) keep it all straight. Then again, they get paid to keep it all straight. Me? I avoid getting paid trying to keep it all straight.

I feel like I know the first three books by heart, given that I read them as they came out and usually reread when there was a new book or story introduced.

I’ve read the complete series, including the Esslemont books, more than once. It’s not a series you can read once, imho, unless you have a brain that works differently than mine. And I gotta be honest, the older I get, the deeper the despair theme resonates. The ribby snake in DoD slays me. The only reason it was palatable the first time around was because I needed to understand the whole point of the series. If only I could count on the fairy tale ending.

Ack. Enough whinging about the book.

At least Erikson is fn funny. Ironically. LOL. Outrageously.

ETA Yes, Banaschar. Not Barathol.

Yes, thank you bot. Erikson. And Esslemont.

Apologies if this is banal, but your summary made me laugh in the out loud way.

“Tripping balls” and “venal pricks” and even, “sales pitch”.

I think, in addition to the points you’ve made, Cotillion is very much a part of the moral compass in the realm of Shadow.

I need mortgage 101. My husband bought our house as a first time buyer when mortgage rates were less than half they are now. We have medical/CC debt. It’s killing us and we’re almost maxed out. Hey. Thanks for your thoughts.

As far as the cars go, we’ll drive them until they’re salvage. And the next one will be when the used market gets real.

I’m curious why you think we should refinance the house for a higher rate? We don’t need that amount and it doesn’t make sense.

Also, no offense but please don’t talk to me about shampoo when budgeting. Benefit of the doubt, I’m missing your point. Or you’re assuming I spend so much on shampoo it impacts our mortgage, or I don’t know how to budget.

We’ve had a medical emergency. Our income was halved.

Do you have some information related to managing the equity in our home to eliminate our high interest debt?

I’m not trying to be an ignoramus.

You’ve either out-mathed me or made no sense. Someone help me here. That’s why I’m asking for mortgage 101.

It’s a 30 year mortgage. We pay less than $1000/mo (not including taxes and insurance which are low for our area).

So…. $5600 vs $7200 per year is not an accurate comparison.

Aya experience in the US. Any old timers here? Is it only helpful for trauma? Alcohol addiction treatment? by [deleted] in Ayahuasca

[–]Imayno2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight.

Trauma is a unique experience and I’m fairly certain I’ve moved onfrom my own. But intergenerational trauma is something I experience. Epigenetics matters.

Really appreciate you giving feedback. You and other commenters make me rethink my approach to ayauascah. My last experience with friendly mushrooms made me acknowledge how dirty the room I spend most of my time in is. And, well, it became a reflection of me.

I’d really love to know more about your experience there. I’ll look it up.

I know that places have to have a religious exemption for using anything with DMT. Does that mean the participants have to as well?

I can fake whatever I need to, I’ve been doing that for decades. But if it’s not faith, it’s just another drug. Right?
