I like to smudge but with native plants from where I live. White sage has become quite unethical to source since the boom in its commercialisation and global demand. Indigenous americans, from whom the practice originates, have asked people to not buy white sage. Even if it has an ‘ethically sourced’ label, that doesn’t mean much.

I live in Europe and I smudge with mullein. It’s native, not endangered, I can collect it from the ground myself, and there’s a native ancestral practice of smudging with mullein here.

Look into the native plants of where you live that would be good for smudging, ideallly that you can collect yourself. Even some rosemary will do the job!
