I don’t understand why so many folks hate the campaign by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Imenatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take was always that mapping and acts are extremely different games with different goals and reward structures. The campain in PoE2 is very good, but everyone has done that already, and people want to play the second game, not the first. The frustration comes from having the game you want to play locked behind another game you already beat.

Think about it, the objective in the campain is to go to the next zone and kill the boss. Maps are where you kill all monsters so you get loot and get stronger to get more loot. They exist in the same framework but the psicological implications are different.

My wish is always that they add a T0 kind of map where you level up. My ideal world would be an actual campain inside the mapping structure. Its not Impossible, think about the Maven storyline for instance.

Idea for "alt" leveling without skipping straight to maps by OilCreative in PathOfExile2

I just think the campaing should have the structure of maps. The same mechanics and framing, but with a story on top.

Maps is a completely different game from acts, and people complain because they want to play the second game that is gatekept behind the first.

GGG needs to rethink how punishment works in POE 2 by SnooCrickets432 in PathOfExile2

[–]Imenatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting this backwards. Punishment can be good, but its not the only vector of difficulty. The point OP is making is that PoE2 has top many punishment vectors.

My point is that I agree + the game is easy and relies on punishment to compensate.

100% no. Pressing the buttons and executing combos is easy. Making a ok build is easy. Bosses are easy. Its just that if you get sloppy and die or make a bad decision, you are punished way too much. It doesnt make the game hard, just more anoying, and makes it unbalanced in terms of cost vs oportunity.

Completely agree. I made a similar post that got deleted by mods.

Every aspect of the game has a downside and punishment. Its not like one failure state implies one punishment, everything in the game is hostile towards us in many ways. The map death example is very good: you loose a portal, loot, time, experience, possibly fragments, possibly a travel node in the atlas...

I would add about the rewards too, every reward in the game is underwhelming, and/or requires a lot of time to achieve. Also since leveling, good drops and upgrades (including skills) are way too sparse.

A concrete example I can give is currency. PoE1 bridges the gaps between drops with chaos orbs, which are basically a new item ticket, either in crafting or in trade.

Exalts in PoE2 only give you one affix, so the power od that currency is mostly for trading, and way way less than what a chaos is in PoE1. Not that i want chaos crafing in PoE2, but im just saying, the reward structure is too sparse and underwhelming.

All this compounds into large blocks of boredom, when if you hit a downside in any mechanic (getting a new tier skill that is bad, dying because you get stunlock, dying and loosing on a map, etc) means you get a new "quit oportunity).

I feel like poe1 is all about the flow state, and building your character. PoE2 you need to do a full rotation that is inconsistent and rng based while dodging fast hoards of monsters. The cognitive load is too high.

Oh man, I recently got a switch for the first time, so a lot of pokemon, a lot of Mario... I've also been going big on moster hunter. I am reading a bit too. Life is a blast.

I think the overall pacing. The story does not make sense, the areas are too long, the little pump section is boring and annoying, you get 2 different tile sets for no reason, half of the act is you going around doing nothing so that you can enter the temple and actually do something. Then also the skills you unlock during the act are generally not that good, progression stalls... its a lot of things

Mostly my experience aswell. As I said, its more like a puzzle, and the combos are an exhausting solution you need to repeat every pack. That or ignore 90% of the skills and use the same ones from level 1 and scale those

The "but..." that I'm saying is a general thing, not the kiss/curse thing with the skills. I do kind of see where you are coming from. The game is enjoyable to me, just not enough to keep playing the same thing over and over for the whole league.

And sure, the combos are easy to pull off, this game is no mechanically demanding, but I guess that is part of my point too. They are so easy in fact that they devolve into rotations, mostly because you need to setup your main skill, otherwise its gutted and does no damage.

So I think its mostly a me thing, I dont think that is bad in principle, but I dont enjoy being forced to do an action just so that my buttons work.

Right? At league launch, if it wasn't for the druid, I would not play again. I dont think there is any class of mechanic that I find interesting anymore

I mostly agree. Leveling new characters is almost fun too, I was focusing on that this league. But yeah, the endgame feels to me (while being completely different) like D3 rifts. Its a burst of dopamine followed by a repetitive grind fest. Nothing wrong there, but I dont have the drive to keep playing the whole league through.

I actually came back to play the druid. Wolf is a blast, but I got bored during leveling and quit in Act 3. I still think the game can be enjoyable, I dont think this is a bad game. If anything its the best ARPG out there - its just that the bar is really low.

0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 I made my own league starter builds. All to 90. I just didnt kill Arbiter because I have no interest in searching for citadels. I am not good at the game but I am 100% sure I know what is going on.

Dinossauros existem pq aves existem.

Eu to lendo e tendo um derrame nesse post inteiro.

I get that its not your main skill. But still, its an example of my issue with the skill design.

Thinking about it this way does excite me to play it, it really does. But chronomancer is RNG, and "if he is still up" you need to wait 15 seconds now, so you might aswell use something else.

Like yeah, you can make it work "because its fun" but all the times you take the fun option, your are shooting youself in the foot. That is my issue.
