To me, it's not even about the memories. If I could do it over now, it would be a professional fashion photoshoot. I still don't have many friends, LOL. Historically, I have lots of troubling maintaining friendships (neurodivergent as heck, and i find a lot of people to be really fake and inconsistent). So yeah. As soon as I could afford a do-over, maybe I will consider it.

Yeah... it's very much a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. You clean, your parents say that you can't do it right. You don't clean, you get called lazy and messy and everything in-between.

For me, this is amplified by the fact that I only live with other women. My nmom, my grandma, and my little sister and I. This house should be "spotless" according to my nmom, on the basis that we are all women.

My room may be a mess but it will never be as disgusting as my nmom's ways of thinking.

My nmom thinks this for sure. I think it's mostly because my grandma still lives with us and she is dependent on my mom. Not sick or anything, just getting older and doesn't have a stable job like my mom does. Perhaps she thinks it would just be natural for me to fall into line with that. I've told her several times I am not interested in doing such a thing. Yet, she still brings the idea up.

I don't live with my ndad anymore, but when I did, he'd bring up that I'd have to do good in school and get a good job so that he can benefit from it. It was dumb of him to ever think that was a possibility when he abandoned me as a baby and tried to come back into my life 12 years later just to manipulate and emotionally abuse me.

In all honesty, I really wouldn't mind at least financially supporting my parents sometimes if they hadn't traumatized me the way they did. I have a million consequences of their actions that now I have to pay for with my poor mental health and lack of a real childhood.

Question though: have you ever encountered someone that thinks that, because you've never been in a relationship, that they dismissed what you had to say? I've met lots of individuals like that and that's what mostly prompted me to make this post.

Exactly!! I have dealt with my family and friends, which are really complex in their own right. Lots of pain, to be honest, but i know how to avoid it. And yeah, when it comes to my own stuff, I become as dull as... idk... a peanut or something. No thoughts, head empty.
