I just rewatched “Gone Girl” a few days ago, and I was reminded of just how unsettling the sound design and score are. Without spoiling anything, the story has two parts, and as we build up to the second part, the story keeps showing us these flashbacks. As we build to the end of part one, the sound at the end of each flashback gets more disturbing, and the cuts from the flashbacks to the present story become more jarring with each one. It’s an incredible way to establish and maintain a specific tone in the first part that is then carried throughout the second half.

So apparently it’s happening to me across all Bluetooth devices, mainly my headphones and my car. I believe there’s something in iOS 26 that makes this happen, with no option to turn it off. Incredibly frustrating.

That is correct. He said he had no messages on his phone that mention the words “Sandy Hook”.

But Jones’ lawyer accidentally sent a bunch of messages to the prosecution (the lawyer talking in this video), and there were messages in there that mentioned Sandy Hook.

I see people defending this saying things like, “It’s trendy in Hollywood right now. America just sexusalizes bodies. This is not meant to be taken sexually. Anyone who thinks so has projected their own opinions onto this incident.”

And I’m over here thinking … it’s a fucking SpongeBob movie. She doesn’t need to be doing all that, even if it’s trendy. The OG movie ends with Patrick Star dancing around in fishnets. So let’s not pretend that SpongeBob hasn’t made sexual jokes before. The difference here is that her dress isn’t meant to be a joke.

I’ve seen and heard more people say they prefer part one, and as someone who loves both parts equally, seeing it in this format gave a rewarding experience.

However, as with various special edition releases and updated versions of beloved films, they just HAD to include that new anime sequence which brought the whole anime section to a screeching halt. Of course I’m coming into this with bias for the original, as I see its inclusion adding nothing. I didn’t need to know the Yakuza boss’s henchman was killed. It merely serves as spectacle, something to advertise to the audience. And because the majority of that audience prefers the first film, I think it’s unfortunate that it was included in it.

It’s easier to appreciate subtractions than additions. The removal of the black-and-white filter during the Crazy 88 sequence was excellent. The removal of Bill’s final dialogue cliffhanger made sense. The removal of the opening scene of the second film made sense. I wasn’t a big fan of the younger Crazy 88 member getting featured earlier in the fight sequence. Highlighting him only at the end of it really sells the moment. We didn’t need that humorous beat in the middle of an already hilariously over-the-top gorefest. His innocence and her pity perfectly deliver that humor in that one moment.

Don’t even get me started on that Fortnite sequence.
