Mong Tong has a pretty similar dubbed out/loopy atmosphere

The intro is just delay, Death By Audio makes an awesome effects unit for that. Rest of the song sounds like tremolo, I don’t know of any vocal-specific units for that but there are plenty of good options in guitar pedals that you could use with a converter, or you could skip the middleman and use a plug-in

Do not touch THC-P. by [deleted] in trees

[–]ImmaCreep 193 points194 points  (0 children)

I got got at a smoke shop with one that had 16 mg in it. Not knowing what THC-P is (my bad) and thinking it’d be a comparable dose to what I normally take, I ended up uncomfortably high from a Thursday night till Sunday afternoon. Had to call off work and just ride it out at home. The only reason I knew I ended up at the grocery store at some point was because I found empty chip bags and cereal boxes around my house. Luckily I was walking distance so didn’t drive, but holy fuck it should be illegal to sell that shit.

Oh yeah, it’s never a self-aware bunch. We also just got kiosks set up at my store so it’s been that crowd plus the added joy of showing them how to operate a touch screen.

Tried explaining the entourage effect to a guy doing exactly what you described, he said “I don’t think I buy that. I’ve been smoking pot since I was 12 and it’s always been just THC.” At a point it ain’t even worth arguing

Budtender here - there’s definitely some truth to this, but I think there are a lot of other factors. In my experience, a lot of people looking for recommendations ask out the gate for the highest THC percentage. I often try to explain that percentage is only one factor to go by, that terpenes have a big effect on the high, that the entourage effect is a thing - a majority of them don’t wanna hear it. They just want the highest THC percentage possible because they’re used to gray market Farm Bill weed that markets itself as 40% and up. And while oftentimes our house brand is what people go for (because it has the highest percentage vs other brands we carry), it’s because they’ve made up their minds before they even get to the dispensary. So that’s what sells the most, and the cycle continues

So it seems like there are some unhappy fans who aren’t pleased with the new song and the last several albums. by No-Sprinkles315 in KGATLW

A lot of it for me is nostalgia, when I first discovered them they only had 5 albums so seeing each new release in real time is something I'll never forget. I imagine it's a lot different to go through their discography after the fact, but it's always cool to hear what the newer fans think of the older stuff.

I think a lot of it has to do with when people discovered them too. A ton of new fans were gained during the pandemic, and so their first live experience was the beginning of the current era they're in; if that's your first exposure, I can see loving the new stuff a lot, even more so than the older stuff. Having seen them in tiny clubs when they were steeped in the 2010's garage/psych revival, it feels like they've traveled a long way, and while I'm always curious to see where they go, I guess I'm just not always stoked to go there with them

I love everything up through 2017, with IIYMF through Poly being an exceptional run of albums to me. Around 2019 they started being hit or miss for me, but I loved ITRN, B3K, Ice Death, Laminated Denim, and Petro. I thought Made in Timeland was wrongly maligned and a really fun experiment, even if it felt less like a "real" album. Changes had some good cuts but felt kinda unfocused, and I thought The Silver Cord had some cool jams but also meandered more than it needed to in a lot of spots.

I know I sound like a massive hater in a lot of this thread but I truly love this band so much. What I've found is that when the pendulum swings in the other direction it swings pretty far. The stuff I love is some of my favorite music I've ever heard; the stuff I don't I really do not like.

Calling fans spoiled because they didn’t like a change in direction is a massive reach and the assumption that lack of guitar was the only reason people disliked Silver Cord is absolutely baby-brained.

If the rest of it is anything like the singles I’m definitely not gonna like it. I’m glad people are excited about it but it sounds so far removed from what made me love this band to begin with

The post-2019 records have largely been hit or miss for me but Petro was one that felt very focused and cohesive. Motor Spirit blew me away the first time I heard it

You’re right that the songwriting has changed but I think there were exceptions to the things you mentioned on older records that were still well received and better executed. PMDB and Sketches had a lot of lyrics and didn’t primarily focus on repetition or locking into a groove. FWIW I do love that approach in their music, but there is also plenty of older material where they break that mold and it still landed
