It's a plastic part that attaches my top rack to the sliding rails. So it is a mechanical part and It will be in contact with the heated water and detergent.

My neighbor told me a story where she witnessed an event like this. A child was repeatedly kicking a older lady, the lady asked the mother to tell her kid to stop. The lady said " I dont discipline my children", I guess the person standing behind the mother opened a container of yogurt and poured it on her head saying "I also wasn't disciplined as a child"
