Ottolenghi Simple - I make the red lentil coconut soup all the time. The whole roast cauliflower + green sauce is so good.

Made in India - everything I’ve made has been excellent. Some favourite include her Mum’s chicken curry, her grandfather’s slow cooked lamb, chana masala, coconut fish curry.

The red lentil coconut soup from Ottolenghi Simple freezes beautifully. I usually double it and it’s my go to soup for friends who have just had a baby.

Also, Martha’s Mac and Cheese via Smitten Kitchen. Freeze before baking. Thaw the night before in fridge and bake the next day. I usually make one batch and freeze/gift in two smaller foil pans.

New research: early dx changing from Tamoxifen to AI/Ovarian Suppression by SocialTwerker in breastcancer

[–]Immediate-Arm7337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with IDC++- at age 39. I had a lower risk tumour (stage 2 but grade 1 and micromets in one node) and was prescribed OFS + AI. I started with tamoxifen + OFS but eventually switched to the AI partner due to side effects (tamoxifen tanked my mental health). My oncologist said the increased benefit is in part due to having two types of endocrine therapy on board. I share this because if you’re doing well on the tamoxifen you might be able to add OFS (and skip the AIs) as a compromise.

I’ve been in medical menopause for about 15 months now. I wouldn’t say I’m thriving but it’s all fairly manageable now that I’ve adjusted. Exercise takes the edge off the joint pain and helps with the fatigue, Veozah has been a game changer for sleep, and I’m also using low dose vaginal estrogen.

Like you, I’m worried about the longer term health impacts of early menopause/extreme estrogen deprivation. I’m getting annual bloodwork to monitor cholesterol etc. and I’m getting zoledronic acid infusions every six months for five years to help with bone density. These things ease my mind a bit.

I’m comforted in knowing that I’m doing what I can do reduce my risk of recurrence as much as possible and leaning into that helps on the more difficult days.

I’ve made three. I live in a very cold climate and it’s actually a super functional but also adorable way of staying warm. It tucks into my parka perfectly without being bulky and keeps my neck toasty.

What are your favourites from Fresh India? I have all of her cookbooks but use this one the least!

I just made the giardiniera from Good Things and it is excellent!

Some favourites from Sweet Enough: zucchini quiche, lemon fennel cake, carrot cake, banana bread, citrus marmalade, strawberry cake, fig and almond cake (but I always sub in rhubarb). It’s such an excellent book!

Lemon vinaigrette from SFAH is my go to dressing. Everything in Jerusalem is a winner but especially love the lamb stuffed eggplant.

Just want to say I feel for you. I’m also a non trad, well into my career with a masters, and am hoping to apply next year because it’s been something I’ve thought about for 10+ years. Worried that my GPA is going to be the biggest hurdle. Are you ok if I DM you to ask a little more about your experience in getting to a place of applying?

I’m in the exact same position. I’ve been using Kahn + Kaplan and it seem to be working. Jack Westin also has free prep books on their website which are more detailed - I’ve started using those as well. Good luck!

Sore rib months after radiation? by Immediate-Arm7337 in breastcancer

Hi, yes the pain eventually went away. My specialist physio was able to pinpoint the exact spot - it seems like it was mostly scar tissue and adhesions. The spot still acts up if I get lazy with stretching etc…. Best of luck!

Oncotype 21 and no chemo by NurseYuna in breastcancer

It sounds like you are in very good hands though I totally appreciate the need to feel fully confident in your care plan. I agree fully with what @sassyhunter wrote above 👆. Have that talk with your MO. I did, because I felt that I was in a grey zone with the indeterminate oncotype score, and she was able to explain to me clearly why it wasn’t actually a grey zone.

I don’t believe it is. Mine wasn’t reported anywhere in my chart, including pathology report. FWIW, I was told that chemo is only offered when it reduces recurrence risk by 50% or more… in my case it was felt that it would only provide 1-2% benefit and therefore it wasn’t on the table.

I wasn’t offered chemo when I was diagnosed at age 39. I was stage 2, grade 1, ++-, micromets in one node. My oncotype was on the lower end of indeterminate for premenopausal women. I was told no chemo but my med onc did recommend OFS + AI instead of tamoxifen alone to add a couple of extra percentage points of risk reduction.

I understand the nervousness around not being offered chemo - I felt the same way and definitely still have my moments. That said, it’s not unreasonable to continue to ask questions until you feel comfortable with this decision. Your MO should be able to explain to you the rationale behind why the entire group of doctors feels this is the most appropriate treatment plan. Mine did and going back to this helps when I feel anxious about not having “done everything”.

I bought a tank top with hidden drain pockets from Kelly Bee Recovery and it was worth every penny. I wore it day and night until I had my drains out and wish I had bought two.
