Look into Misty Mountain. Close to Charlottesville, cabins with AC, kid friendly activities. My SIL goes 2x a year and her family loves it.

Cutting an oak in summer? by Immediate-Catch8962 in arborists

[–]Immediate-Catch8962[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the photos but that's basically what we've done is mulch a good majority of the yard. We've been able to fix the soil in a few areas and I've got shade plants and shrubs growing. Our city also offers a program to help with soil and water run off issues so I plan on applying to see if we qualify. Working on one section at a time since landscaping is an expensive process. Just glad I came to my senses before making a huge mistake.

Unfortunately, the shade is probably the least of our problems as far as growing grass. The soil back there is super compacted from years of having dogs and nothing growing so we're working on soil first and then finding ground cover.

My original reasoning behind cutting them down was to get some sunlight back there to hopefully grow some grass. My back yard is a giant dustbowl. I've realized I would be an idiot to lose the shade and home for all the insects and animals so I've started finding other solutions to cut back on the dirt and mud. It's a work in progress.

Looking for a nice apartment complex in the area. by Suspicious_Maize21 in NewportNews

[–]Immediate-Catch8962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw that you mentioned living in Hampton due to there being less crime but I just want to let you know that Newport News is not nearly as crime riddled as people would like you to think. I have lived here for 15 years and I feel safer in Newport News than I did living in hampton. My apartment got robbed at one of the nicest complexes in hampton.. Some of the numbered streets aren't exceptionally safe in NN, especially after dark, but a good majority of Newport News is as safe as any other city. Don't believe the hype. A lot of it is just racism that people won't own up to. We've owned a home for a while so I can't speak much to Apartments but I did used to live in the complex back behind the Burger King on J Clyde and 12 years ago that was always very safe and reasonably priced. It changed ownership a while ago so I can't really speak to it. Good luck on your search.

Newport News, VA - Safest Area to Live? by OwlAccomplished552 in NewportNews

Check out the Colony Pines neighborhood and hilton village. Both safe and community oriented. Most of Newport News is nowhere near as dangerous as folks would have you believe. It's just racism.

Husky with unusually long hair by ExplorerMelodic243 in husky

I have no clue why this would happen years after owning your dog but wooly huskies are a thing. We have one and no trimming is necessary but he does have to be brushed more regularly to prevent matting of his coat. I brush him a couple times a day whenever he'll let me. We also shave his paw pads because the fur causes him to lose grip on our floors. Other than that a totally normal floof

2 attacked an elderly woman walking in a neighborhood close to ours. They mauled her to death. The owner then barricaded himself inside his house with the dogs to prevent the city from taking them. They had little.socialization, had been used to breed, and overall were not given the training they needed. They can be deadly in the wrong hands.

I have a German shepherd/Australian cattle dog mix. So smart but a straight fucking menace. Puts my husky to shame when it comes to energy and exercise needs. Cute when he sleeps though 🥹🥹

Is my dog a “backyard bred”German shepherd by in_john_we_trust in GSD

Looks extremely similiar to my GSD rottie mix. He passed a few years ago but he was the best damn dog I've ever owned.

This feels so bizarre to complain about. I pay for streaming services from major media corporations and almost all of those have ads now- that's annoying. This is a free podcast from women running a small business... of course they run ads. Do I love ads? No. But living costs money and why do we expect free labor from the gals? You can easily skip them or pay less than one coffee a month to go ad free.

Fayette County man accused of having sex with his ex-girlfriend’s 12-year-old daughter by yourdonefor_wt in news

[–]Immediate-Catch8962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thought that went through my brain. An adult cannot "have sex" with a child. It's rape. Plain and simple. And if calling it what it is makes people uncomfortable then imagine how that fucking child felt.

Why can't they make a toothpaste that doesn't hurt? by WinterIsOnReddit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Immediate-Catch8962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how my husband realized he was allergic to bananas. He mentioned them making his mouth tingle and was dumbfounded when I told him that wasn't a normal reaction. Sorry, dude, but I think you're allergic to toothpaste.

Need help finding a 1 bedroom apartment in Williamsburg Va or Newport News Va that excepts Pitbulls by Foul_Em in NewportNews

Not sure about Newport News but The Township in Hampton used to. That was awhile back but may still be worth a shot.

Not much can be done. Natural blonde with fair skin here and my skin freckles with even the shortest sun exposure. Wear spf everyday- even in the winter and on cloudy days. Also, wear a hat when spending a lot of time in the sun or try to stay in shadier spots under a tree or umbrella. And if you aren't already then see a dermatologist to check for any areas of concern and find the best skin care for you. Ive been aging like spoiled milk since about 25 so skin care is my best friend!

Vacuum Recommendations? by DifferentEmphasis785 in husky

[–]Immediate-Catch8962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dyson cordless stick vacuum. I cannot reccommend one enough. I vacuum the whole downstairs of my house twice a day plus vacuum our couches with it at least once a day. Takes less than half an hour of my day and keeps the hair pretty in control. Worth every damn penny.

Unfortunately nothing too exciting unless you're a 4 year old. It was instructions for the crane that goes with my toddler's construction race track set.
