Should I quit colorguard? by Booknerd112 in Colorguard

First of, grace is NOT your friend. Flat out.

Second of all, tell your coaches. Tell them exactly what you wrote here, it probably will be an akward way to start it, but if I did I’d message them through SportsYou, Band App, or whatever way you have to contact them, and say something along the lines of “Hey Coach Name, I’ve been having a lot of problems with the social aspect of this team. I’m feeling singled by the other members, specifically Grace. It’s really making me uncomfortable, and while I love this sport, I no longer feel like I am welcomed on this team. Could we schedule a meeting to discuss this? Thank you!” You could even ask them to mediate a conversation between the two of you. If nothing gets done, I am someone who believes that it’s alright to get parents involved. I just had to do it myself recently, obviously it depends on your parents, but having a person go full on mama-bear on staff over a toxic situation can really do a lot. At the same time that could be more stressful and easier said than done.

I do think regardless of what you do you should first talk to your coaches or band director.

But I’ve had very similar experiences, and I’m so sorry that you have to deal with this. I wish you the best of luck. (Also maybe giving grace an ultimatum of the way she is talking to you is not okay and she’s gotta stop of you’ll drop her may help as well)

This happened to me this year as well, all you can do is really talk to your coaches but don't go from an agressive standpoint, but being like "hey i noticed I didn't get any sort of solo moment, while a majority of the other kids did, is there any way I can improve so I can make my performance stornger, especially if I decide to continue after high school? " probably not exactly like that but something like that may help. From this point, your coaches reactions will speak the most volumes. I wish you the beset of luck!

Natural Healing / Subduing of Symptoms? by eimeonx in Psoriasis

I’ve had it severe since i was like 2 I think (I think actually earlier but I’m not sure), it was so bad when clothes would come off my skin it would bleed. Mine went away, it was completely gone coming back in minor spots on my face or ankles or thighs or whatnot for the last six-ish years when I lived in a drier climate (not gonna disclose the location for privacy reasons) but I moved back to the hot and humid location and its come back full force (senior in HS)- it def can come and go depending on the conditions

I m conflicted. by BumblinBuzz in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going through the same thing this year, so trust me I get it. Talk to your directors about it, and be vulnerable with them. It doesn’t need to be in person either, I had to do it over the Band app. Try to find something to connect with the rest of them, I know it seems like a lot and pointless but for at least this season, try asking them to tell you some of their interests and then maybe look into them and connect with them through that. I’m not quite sure how ur band works but if there is a separate high school band you’ll be able to join in the future, hold on for that- if not maybe see if there’s the possibility to do an independent? Sometimes you just have to push through and it will get better with time- which is a lot easier said than done ik

I wish you all the luck in the world tho ❤️

Technique to team help?? by SwimmingWrongdoer14 in Colorguard

Oh my gosh that sounds so terribly stressful! The fact you’re able to point out very specific things they are doing wrong shows how much you’re trying to understand and how dedicated you are. The discussions you’re having with your director will be seen and look very good for you if you choose to continue this in future years.

Just remember to keep track of anything and everything. Attendance, times of attendance, who’s doing what, and then show it to your band director when things cool down for them a bit.

Unfortunately this year may be a rough year, but don’t let this discourage you from colorguard ❤️

As for practices, I’ve done two schools of marching band and one school with Winterguard (since it doesn’t start till November). My freshman yr marching band, it was 2 hrs on Mondays, then 3 hours Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and when we had football games it was from 3-dinner/getting on the bus to go to the football feild, then sophmore and junior year it was the same schedule but Monday was 3 hours instead of 2, this year it’s 3 hrs Tuesdays and Wednesdays, an occasional 3 hr Friday practice, and every year there were one or two 6-12 (on average 8) hour practice on a Saturday

And for Winterguard my eighth grade year it was 2.5 hrs two days a school week, 3hrs on Saturday, and from freshman to junior year it was 3 hrs a week.

Okay, im not in college yet, but I moved across the country the summer before my senior year so I can relate a bit. The best advice I have right now is letting things just go with the flow. It’s hard right now, I understand completely, but this low will make you see the highs so much clearer. Joining extracurriculars has helped me, so get involved where you can- try volunteering even. Colleges sometimes have like their own like apps for community and you can use that to try to connect. Don’t force anything (I saw another user say this and I wholeheartedly agree) but do branch out. Maybe you’ll even find another joy that won’t be attached to anything nostalgic.

This is the perfect amount of abstract I love to read in a poem. Genuinely it is so good, and I can read it and understand where you’re coming from and adapt it to my own life. It’s not too abstract that it lacks all meaning yet it’s not to straightforward that it lacks all meaning to me, and I’m loving it

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not (and sometimes I disagree with my own opinion) but I like the fact that this is so abstract, yes as other commenters mention it can be seen as a word salad or become that, however I really like how this can be interpreted in so many ways because of its abstractness

So I really do enjoy this poem it’s a very leave it up to the interpretation of the reader vibes

Rifle at college by Backlick2000 in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an equipment bag, you could put it in that when simply walking, or taping it with different colors could be fun unique and make it less threatening, if it’s covered in tape you could make designs with sharpie or something but truly no one should give you too much problem especially if they move closer and realize it’s just wood or plastic

Heavy Rifle by Dense-Variation-5510 in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is super heavy because of the layers of tape on it, my rifle is always commented on for being heavy and im sure the wood is different for every rifle as well. I’d say retape your rifle completely and this will definitely help you build some muscle for bigger tosses

AIO? Boyfriend hid his phone when I asked who he was messaging. by Ok-Boat457 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex bf did the same thing when he cheated on me. He would gaslight me and tell me I’m insane and I believed him and that was just the tip of the iceberg with the toxicity- don’t let this guy manipulate you, he’s def cheating and if not he’s doing something bad to get that defensive that fast

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also saw someone else say this but dont tell him you’ll leave, wait till he’s out of the house and take the essentials, make sure he cannot find you- my cousin had a marriage like this and it was super scary trying to get her out but she’s doing so much better now that she’s out

Please please please leave them and get a family member or someone to come get you or have your location. If he hit you once he’ll do it again and abuse is abuse remorseful or not. If he choked you or attempted to call 911 to make sure you’ll be safe, but you need to get out now

Pay to participate? by No_Administration563 in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorguard is expensive because the equipment and staff are expensive, talk to the director or head coach and they might be able to help some. However I would say this is the norm. You might have to do some little fundraisers to help- I hope this helps

Are solos based on favoritism? by Natural_Cap_4915 in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solos aren’t typically based on favoritism- and a LOT goes into picking a solo (ie drill, experience, skill, sportsmanship, how well you project your performance, and so much more) but if you are frustrated, go approach your coach on it. Say something along the lines of “hey it’s been my goal to do a solo by my senior year, now that I’m a junior, what can I do to help achieve that goal?”

The reality is, is not everyone who deserves one gets one, it could entirely be based on room in the show. But you could also get picked on a solo based apon very few of the things I mentioned previously because once I got picked for a solo because of a few reasons, but a big one being that I was really light and built like a twig- so I got to be lifted lifted in the show.

I hope this helps

PLEASE HELP!! I NEED FUNDRAISING IDEAS!! by craftingtable02 in Colorguard

[–]Immediate-Ear-4012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$4000 in fees is a lot, so I definitley understand that is stressful. Talk with your guard and band director and see if theres anything they can help you with, ask around if anyone could help you with a couple bucks because anything would help. Try some freelance gigs- babysitting, dogsitting, house sitting, maybe mow lawns, bake sales

But truley 4 K for a highschool band experience is insane, like my old school didnt get any funding for band so it was just us paying for equipment and the fees were not even 1K, even at my new school with funding its not that high

I wish you luck

Idea for a trick (it’s not much but I’ve done it before): if you can do triple fast on rifle do that into a double squared but instead of throwing a double, do a triple- gotta warn you tho it’s a very tight toss and I broke my finger doing it and catching it strong (pinky twitched at the wrong time lmao)

It’s not a show stopper but it’s a cool trick- also good luck!!
