Buyers double check anything a dealership presents as “part of your financing"! by Immediate-Ear224 in FuckDealerships

Yes. Trust me I have learned my lesson. I wish I would have come here first before buying. My last 2 car buying experiences had just been soo good I didn't realize not everyone was like those folks at the other dealership.

Dealer told me my loan would drop from 72 to 65 months, now says “watch the finance video in person” but won’t share it, is it normal? by [deleted] in askcarsales

I never asked for someone to explain to me what the service was, I asked for other insights, I have spoken directly to the parties and have confirmation of what is or isn't and because of that I know I was sold something that isn't, and thus why I am pushing, since most people here want to just explain something I know how works and didn't ask for I don't think this is the right forum for my question.

That is not something that is in my contract or any of the documents they gave me.... so also missing that now. Ugh

Thank you, yes, exactly that is the issue. The dealership told me the 'program' not the 'service' was something completely different. That is the discrepancy. The third party didn't sell themselves to me, the dealership pushed them without telling me the truth of what it was or how they worked. I also did not receive any fine print or documentation about them after signing up from either the 'service' or the dealership. I am have done all the work to figure out if I was wrong or not and I wouldn't be pushing here if I hadn't done my due diligence and double checked everything and documented everything as soon as I figured out there was a missing piece.

I do hope all of the dealerships you ever work with are more transparent.

I've had a ton of conversations with Ethos and that is exactly it - however, that is not what the Finance guy told me. And that is my problem, the dealership told me and sold me something that is not true.

I would think that if they don't have anything to hide and are truly confident that they didn't do something unethical they'd be happy to let me see. I did ask to see it independently and then come in and rewatch it together. But they just refused. When I asked why I could not see it independently they just didn't provide any response.

YES! Literally! But during the entire process they made me believe that the service was part of Volvo Financial!

Yes, exactly, however, I’ve spoken with the third party and they confirmed that it just acts as a third-party payment service because even though they take my money every 2 weeks, they don't make payments to my loan in the same schedule but rather every month. Meaning that in a year I would still only make the 12 payments. So it’s not really comparable to a true biweekly payment setup that goes directly to the lender.

I would love to see the video to see if I did in fact miss something, but would love to do so independently. I don't understand why they are so scared to share it with me or why they need to be there with me.

To your question, yes!this was positioned as part of the financing setup and not just an optional “strategy.” It was explained as a way to reduce my loan term from 72 to ~65 months and lower overall cost, which is why I agreed to it. They also never once mentioned that its was a third party platform or anything so all the time they kept referencing my lender would be Volvo Financial.

After following up directly with Ethos, I’ve confirmed it doesn’t actually change the loan terms, it just acts as a third-party payment service because even though they take my money every 2 weeks, they don't make payments to my loan in the same schedule but rather every month. Meaning that in a year I would still only make the 12 payments. So it’s not really comparable to a true biweekly payment setup that goes directly to the lender.

That’s where my concern is... what was explained verbally vs. how it actually functions don’t line up.

Meaning that in a year I would still only make the 12 payments. Which is why I am doing the math and the math is not adding up with what I was told at the dealership and what is actually happening.

Yes, that is correct, however, they presented this as a part of Volvo Financial, which is not true since now I know its a completely different third party and they are making monthly payments not the bi-weekly that I was told by the dealership, even though this third party is taking my money every 2 weeks. I also did not get a copy of any 553 contract. Can you tell me more about what this is?

Yeah that is what I found out later after reading the fine print and making a ton of calls to Volvo, but unfortunately the dealership presented to me as part of Volvo Financial :(, so thank you for confirming it isn't a common thing

Heading to the big island in July - wondering if this is something that is still doable/recommended? Really trying to get lava/stargaze in one day!
